About Me

Freedom has always been one of the building blocks of our society, if not the only building block. Musically, it's the freedom of expression that has divulged our greatest legends. E-rif has his eyes set on breaking free himself.
New Jersey native, E-rif, born Darrell Benford, started on his journey to freedom at a very young age, singing as a young child and honing his writing at the young age of 11. But then with the passing of his mother, he halted his writing at the age of 13. Feeling that with this loss, he lost his will to write. He says his mother appeared to him in a dream urging him to continue writing.
This newfound creative energy carried him through high school where he formed Total Threat, a hip hop trio comprised of him and his two close friends. In this group was where E-rif molded his craft, MC-ing and creating beats. But then with the exit of one of the members, E-rif and remaining member Young Cipha continued the group under the name Dubble Up. This duo was their first forray into the real world of performance with multiple studio cuts, sessions with top producers, performances in and around the NYC metro area, and more ultimately connecting them with Young Zee of Tha Outsidaz, the crew partly responsible for the success of The Fugees, Eminem, and Rah Digga.
Still hungry from the drive of Dubble Up, E-rif is now set to work on his first solo debut project being released from Beat Switch Productions. This project will not only showcase E-rif's style as an MC, but also a rare journey into his mind and life with styles ranging from Hip Hop to R&B to Gospel to Rock. Helmed by Beat Switch Productions mastermind and longtime friend, A-natural, E-rif's debut project will be sure to break creative chains and unlock a new kind of musical freedom that the music world has not yet seen.
