The Rasmus, no newcomers, but old guys in the business.
At the age of 10 Lauri, Pauli, Janne and Eero first met. They founded a band and often played at school concerts. More and more people wanted to hear something from Rasmus and so in 1995 they recorded their first single, “1stâ€. At this time they were no older then 15 – 16 years old!
One year later they signed a Record-deal at “Warner Finlandâ€. Also during this year Rasmus released their first album which was called “Peepâ€. The album was very popular and after a few weeks it went gold. In 1996 Rasmus had played over 100 concerts in Finland.
Rasmus didn’t want a break. They worked really hard, and just one year later in 1997 Rasmus released their second album “Playboysâ€. “Playboys†also went gold fast and Rasmus won their first “Emmaâ€, (it’s a Finnish “Grammyâ€), as “Best new actâ€.
Rasmus were known by everyone in Finland and they played as a support band for big rock stars like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Garbage and Rancid.
After all the success Rasmus wanted more. In 1999 they released their third album, “Hell of a testerâ€. The song “Liquid†which is taken from the album was voted as “Best Single of the Yearâ€. Bar the success of “Liquidâ€, “Hell of a tester†was a flop and Rasmus took a break.
Their drummer Janne left the band in 1999. He emigrated to Thailand, and hasn’t seen a future for himself in the band since. Pauli got the idea to ask Aki, who used to sell Merchandise at Rasmus concerts, to join the band. Aki said “yes†and still plays the drums for The Rasmus today.
Everything changed in 2001! Rasmus changed their Record label to “Playground Musicâ€. They also changed their Band name from “Rasmus†to “The Rasmusâ€. They didn’t want to be mistaken for the Swedish “DJ Rasmusâ€.
“F-f-f-falling†was the first single from their new album, “Intoâ€. The single and album both went Platinum after a few weeks and they were on the top of the charts for a month. “F-f-f-falling†was voted “Single of the Year†in 2001. They also got Awards for “Best Band†and “Best Albumâ€.
The Rasmus played in sold out clubs and halls in Finland again. Now they wanted more and decided to release “Into†in Germany. But Germany wasn’t ready for the sound… the single and album both flopped, and The Rasmus were forgotten fast.
But this soon changed in 2003. Sounding a little bit darker and more melancholy, The Rasmus came back with the Hit single “In the shadows†which is taken from the album “Dead Lettersâ€. Both went from 0 to 1 in the charts and were there week after week.
Happy about the success in Germany they wanted to release “Dead Letters†worldwide. And everywhere you looked, you saw the same. The Rasmus were on the top of the charts with a clipping in every magazine and hour for hour The Rasmus Clips on MTV.
The Rasmus’ biggest wish, to be popular worldwide, came true and all their hard work of the last few years was realised.
“Dead Letters†and “In the shadows†went Platinum and more than 1.5 million CDs were sold.
Over the next two years The Rasmus toured worldwide and played to sold out venues and the biggest festivals.
Without a break after their tour, they recorded their 6th album “Hide from the Sunâ€. The Album was on the top of the charts and was released worldwide. The Rasmus went on tour again, to perform their new stuff live.
The Rasmus are still on Tour and will release their 7th album in 2008.
