Rüdiger Helbig started playing guitar at age fourteen, and somewhere around 1969 made the switch to five-string banjo. With the initial guidance of an american G.I. tioned in Munich and with the help of the now-famous „Earl Scruggs bluegrass banjo method“ book, and banjo tablature from Alan Munde, Rüdiger has become the pre-eminent banjo player in all of Europe. He has spent the last nearly 40 years perfecting his unique style. While also writing banjo tablature books of his own and teaching a whole generation of pickers how to play Bluegrass.
Rüdiger..s amazing tone is provided by his beloved 1934 flattop Gigson Granada, and his new „Rüdiger Helbig“ model banjo made by Goldstar. He is also playing guitar and dobro. Rüdiger is performing europeanwide with his band Huckleberry Five. Rüdiger is a fulltime musician also working in local studios for any kind of recordings.
