Pianist and composer Dahveed Behroozi was born in San Jose CA where he began playing both piano and violin at an early age. Throughout his teens, he studied classical piano with Hans Boepple at Santa Clara University. During this time he also developed an interest in jazz. He then moved to New York in the Fall of 1999 to attend the Manhattan School of Music where he studied jazz piano with Fred Hersch. After receiving his Bachelor of Music in Spring of 2002, Dahveed returned to CA for a series of hand operations. After recovering from the operations in early 2004, Dahveed began playing and recording again throughout the Bay Area with his own group and also as a sideman. He then returned back to New York in 2007 where he began reestablishing himself. Currently he is earning his Masters in piano performance at the conservatory of music at Brooklyn College where he is studying with Ursula Oppens. Dahveed plans to release a solo piano album by the end of the year.
