Mark Johnson, saxophonist/composer, originally from Rockford, Illinois. Graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree in jazz performance in 1989. Moved to NYC in 1990 where he was active as a performer and composer, recording three CD’s for JVC Records under his own name, and producing/arranging/performing/recording with a diverse range of artists including Special EFX with George Jinda and Chieli Minucci, Larry Coryell, Chuck Loeb, Dave Samuels, Nelson Rangell, Walter Beasley, Henry Johnson, John Lee, Debora Hensen-Conant, Roseanna Vitro, Michael Urbaniak, NYC Percussion Works, and Alex Bugnon. Returned to the Midwest in 2002 and received a Masters of Music (Electro-Acoustic Composition and New Media Technologies) from Northern Illinois University in 2005. His computer composition “A Lesson With Wendy†was accepted for performance at the 2005 SEAMUS national conference. Since 2002 he has participated in the Jazz Aspen Snowmass summer jazz institute as an instructor, and taught in the Aspen public school system 2005-2006. Returned to NYC 2006 and is once again active performing and producing, having recorded for Shanachie Records, working with the cooperative trio Powerof3, and touring Europe with Elemer Balazs.
