About Me

I've worked as a musician in a variety of musical and cross-artform environments. I studied music with the composer Gavin Bryars and went on to perform in Bryars’ ensemble. At various times my work has embraced a wide range of genres from conventionally scored chamber music to improvised music and process-based sound art.I was co-founder and co-director of the music-led multi-media ensemble HUB and I've composed scores for theatre, dance, film, radio and television. Until recently I was also Head of Music at London Contemporary Dance School at the Place.Recent collaborations include work with digital artist/choreographer Nic Sandiland, and choreographers Sue MacLennan, Rick Nodine and Jan de Schynkel, as well as working with the artist Beatrice Gibson on 'If The Route ...' (a piece for ten trainee taxi drivers and string quartet). I also tour and record with the Canadian Indie band The Hidden Cameras.Alongside other projects I'm currently working on my own folk/indie band Dog of Hearts (visit myspace.com/dogofhearts to hear some of the band's tracks). Over the last year I've also collaborated with the performance company Fevered Sleep on three projects 'Brilliant', 'An Infinite Line' and 'Stilled' (for the Welcome Foundation) and the Dance company Lost Dog on two pieces 'Hungry Ghosts' and 'The Rain Parade'.

Sounds Like: The tracks on this profile are mainly here as an example of my playing. All of them come from a piece I wrote for a contemporary dance performance in 2003. They're all duets for violin and viola both of which I played and double tracked myself. I guess they're essentially in a kind of post-minimalist style. I also do quite a lot of free playing using extended techniques and much more textural stuff.
