WRITTEN BY LORNA J STEWARTJCR VISION ART Jason C RickettsDrawing and painting since he could basically hold a pencil or brush, Jason C Ricketts tells me "I remember at about age 5, I used to sneak out of bed to draw. My parents used to make me draw landscapes." Jason describes his work as heavily influenced by Abstract Art and Surrealism; "All of my work is abstract; I have my own unique perspective, as my tutors used to love informing me." Something of a holistic artist, Jason likes his work to portray far more than just aesthetics evidencing mood, feeling, essence and spirit in all of his pieces. So after evidencing interest in one of my MySpace photos, Jason explained he would love to do a portrait of me. I was somewhat alarmed as firstly, the photo was not what I believe to be one of my most attractive poses (it was actually a test shot) it does however evidence, each binary side of me wonderfully. Unconvinced that someone could actually gage the true emotion and feeling of this photograph; I instigated a challenge and offered to commission Jason to paint my portrait in time to hang in my living room for my 28th birthday at the end of June. As the weeks wore on, I became increasingly nervous. Not an overtly vain individual, I was worried how narcissistic having a self portrait in my living room would actually feel. I was blown away when I received the final piece, I absolutely love it. No vanity could be found within this piece; Jason has Manga-fied me in the best possible way. His implementation of shading evidences my whole being, everything that I am… good and bad. It is a piece of both realism and surrealism, it's everything that it is not, just like me - a walking, talking oxymoron. What this man (whom I'd never previously met) had managed to ascertain about my character and spirit was overwhelming. From the rays of light shooting out of my being, to the purple electric aura surrounding me and the cleverly mastered three shapes (circles/stars/ 3 eyes or third eye) spinning around my body. I would describe it as a caricature of my spirit and I am absolutely 'over the moon' with it:Aspiring to forge a career out of his talents, Jason states, "There is nothing more satisfying in life than being content in who you are and what you do. So here I am, trying to release my inhibitions, overcome my fears and put myself out there for all to see."For further information, contact
