It was February of 2005 when Kenneth and Anthony, two members of the Ayala Jazz Ensemble, wanted to start their own jazz band.
The recruiting began with Andrew, commonly known as "Fir-B", as he was a skilled trumpet player as well as he was also a member of the Ayala Jazz Ensemble. Next were Brandon on guitar and Shayne on bass, both members of the Ayala Jazz Ensemble. Brandon suggested Nick on drum set and B.D. on piano as they had played in other bands together. It was at that point, that seven cool cats came together to form 10 o'clock Curfew.
After a few rehearsals and numerous failed band name attempts, Anthony was struck with pure gold with the name 10 o'clock Curfew. Anthony, also known as "Kneehow", was inspired at a rehearsal when the band had to stop playing at ten o'clock by law.
The band started out playing jazz songs from The Real Book, such as "Blue Bossa" by Kenny Dorham and "Red Clay" by Freddie Hubbard. They then went on to playing well known funk songs as well as some of their own originals.
After weekly rehearsals and after building up their musical repertoire, 10 o'clock Curfew had their first real gig at a Western Barbecue Dinner locally in Chino Hills. The gig was a success and it sparked a new interest with this local jazz band. 10 o'clock Curfew went on to play numerous gigs in the Chino Hills area including the Ayala High School Football Tailgate Festival, the Ayala High School Back to School Night, and the St. Paul Harvest Festival. 10 o'clock Curfew has also played at a number of private parties. The ensemble continues to practice and add new charts to their set weekly. With their passion for music, 10 o'clock Curfew continues to play and perform before 10 o'clock.
