Dave Bishop has been developing his audience over the last 7 years in various projects; the most recent being his solo career and former band Night Train, of which he was the singer/ songwriter.
With a long history in the ACT music scene, Dave has been performing solo, in duos and bands for a number of years. A talented performer he has slogged it out in pubs and clubs all over Australia. From 2005 to mid 2007 he played 236 shows both as a solo artist, with his duo Detour and former band Night Train.
For the past few years Dave has been writing songs in preparation for a debut solo album. His songs, with their story telling lyrics & rootsy overtones, are reminiscent of a young Paul Kelly, and the fact Dave sings in an Australian accent with local subject matter means his music evokes a fresh contemporary Australian country feel.
Dave has achieved many milestones as a musician and is no stranger to performing and recording. His former band ‘Night Train have supported & played with many Australian touring acts: The Screaming Jets, Rose Tattoo, The Angels, Jimmy Barnes, Killing Heidi, Spiderbait, You am I, Magic Dirt, Something for Kate, Lee Kernigan, Alex Lloyd and Troy Casser Daly
Night Train were invited to play Canberra Day & Australia Day celebrations by the ACT Government and performed alongside acts such as Something for Kate, Alex Lloyd & Gina Jefferies. They were then invited by the Department of Defence to go to the Solomon Islands over the New Year period 06-07 to play for deployed forces. While there Dave also played some acoustic shows, from that he was invited to do a 10 day tour to Egypt & Cyprus to entertain other deployed Australian forces in June 2007.
Dave’s debut solo album “Above the Roof†features 12 of Dave’s original compositions and was recorded at Cloud Studios by award winning producer and musician Parris MacLeod. It also features well regarded musician Andrew Clermont.
The album has many stand out songs that could be classed as singles, from the first track ‘Train Station’ which is an acoustic rock song with strong vocals and intense piano and mandolin solo’s, to the more country style ‘Lock’n’Key’ which features amazing fiddle work from well respected artist, Andrew Clermont. The track ‘Did you Ever’ evokes strong emotion with lyrics of love and loss while the instrumentation goes above and beyond everyday music lovers’ expectations while the track ‘Selfish’ is an easy listening piece with beautiful string melodies over a simple guitar/ vocal. All other tracks in between feature something new and interesting.
The album was put together over the Christmas/ New Year period of 07/08. It is an honest tribute to Australian culture, partly inspired by the men and woman who risk everything by representing our great country in peace time and war, our Australian soldiers.
