Lal - the beloved

I am here for Friends

About Me

I am Lal, Commander Data's gynoid "daughter" whom he created. My vocal abilities are more advanced than that of my Father. I can use contractions such as, "don't." I also can feel emotions, to some extent. My Father named me, "Lal," which means, "beloved," in the Hindi language.Captain Picard was dismayed by my father's decision to pursue such an undertaking in secrecy and is extremely concerned about the reaction when Starfleet learns of the existence of another Soong-type android. However, Father is determined, and goes immediately to work in raising me. My personality and sentience developed steadily to everyone's delight. Although I encountered difficulties in mastering the nuances of human behavioral norms, I displayed emotional and functional abilities that surpass my Father's, including the use of verbal contractions. I remember my Father, in response to frustration I displayed towards new challenges, Father explained to me that although neither of us may become fully human, the struggle itself can bear worthwhile fruits.I remember trying to emulate human rituals. I flirted with Commander Riker. I even kissed him. At that moment, Father comes in and asks Commander Riker, "What are your intentions towards my daughter?"Admiral Haftel arrived from Starfleet Research, interviewed me, and insisted that I be relocated (without Father) to the Daystrom Annex on Galor IV. Upon learning of Admiral Haftel's plan, I visited Deanna Troi, who immediately sensed the authenticity of my newly found emotion. I became unstable, fled Deanna's quarters, fearing what will happen when Haftel takes me away; Troi watches in dismay as I began a difficult retreat to Father's laboratory. Troi summoned Father to the lab, where Father (with Admiral Haftel's assistance) struggled unsuccessfully to save me from rapid positronic cascade failure. In my last moments of life, I expressed sadness that Father was unable to save me, but thanked him for my life and told him I love him. At the time, Father wasn't able to feel the emotion of love, so I told him that I will feel it for us both. I suffered complete neural system failure and was deactivated a little more than two weeks after activation. After my system failure, Father transfered my memories to himself. That was years ago. Commander Bruce Maddox, along with Starfleet's finest cyberneticists, have found a way to stabalize my nural pathways. I was reactivated on stardate, 60534.4. I am fully functional now. I am currently attending my first year at Starfleet Academy.I was saddened to hear about my father's final mission. He made me very proud. I am happy to know that the rest of my Enterprise family is alive today because of Father's sacrifice. I love you Father.
