After classical piano lessons with Ruth Schontal and Ivan Tcherepnin he studied jazz with Hall Overton, Jaki Byard, Charles Banacos, Don Friedman, and John Lewis, and harmony with Nadia Boulanger. He has performed with such musicians as Kenny Wheeler, Gary Peacock, Norma Winstone, Eddie Harris, Steve Lacy, Freddie Hubbard, Bob Sheppard, Rick Margitza, Nelson Veras, Dominique di Piazza, Paulo Moura, Lisa Ono, Clark Terry, Slide Hampton, Victor Assis Brasil, Dori Caymmi, Karim Ziad, Sheila Jordan, Ron McClure, Drew Gress, Ndugu Chancler, Dave Carpenter, Charlie Mariano, André Ceccarelli, Riccardo del Fra, Hein van de Geyn, Lars Daniellson, Guillermo Anderson, and the piano quartet with Jaki Byard, Martial Solal, and Paul Bley. Jeff's 17 CD's as a leader include ”SPIRIT CALL” (solo), “CONTINUUM”, with Eddie Gomez and Billy Hart, “ALCHEMY”, with Gary Peacock, “SECOND HOME”, with Rick Margitza, “SKY DANCE” (recorded in Rio de Janeiro) with Gilberto Gil, Carlos Malta, Nivaldo Ornellas, Mou Brasil, Artur Maia, etc. and “NOCHES HABANERAS”, recorded in Havana, Cuba, with Anga, Maraca, Julio Barreto, Diego Valdes, and Felipe Cabrera. Jeff’s CD, “THE MUSIC OF CHANCE” is a collection of music inspired by the writings of Paul Auster and features Rick Margitza, Ingrid Jensen, and Drew Gress. Other recent recordings include ”STREET ANGELS ”, also recorded in Rio with Marcos Suzano, Marcelo Martins, Alexandre Carvalho, Jorge Helder, etc., “GRACE” with David Friesen, and “ABRAÇOS”, with Carlos Balla and Alberto Continentino. "BREATH" (Terramar), features Drew Gress and Anthony Pinciotti. This trio has just released a second CD, "LOVELIGHT", (check out "Silver Sea" and "Waiting on You"). Jeff is a versatile musician, equally at home with jazz, new music (his duo with Andrew Schloss on radio drum), and Brazilian sounds. He recently wrote and performed his first piano concerto in Sao Caetano do Sul (Brasil). Suas influências passam pelo clássico, jazz e, principalmente, pela música brasileira. Estudou com nomes lendários do universo jazzístico, entre eles, John Lewis, Don Friedman, Jaki Byard, Charles Banacos, e Hall Overton, além de Nadia Boulanger, Ruth Schontal, e Ivan Tcherepnin (música erudita). Seu interesse pela música brasileira se intensificou em suas inúmeras vindas ao Brasil, onde teve oportunidade de tocar ao lado de Hermeto Pascoal, Victor Assis Brasil, Toninho Horta, Paulo Moura, Hélio Delmiro, Mou Brasil, Dori Caymmi, Carlos Balla, João de Aquino, Mauricio Einhorn, Bocato, Robertinho Silva, Nilson Matta, João de Aquino, Bocato, Nivaldo Ornellas, Arismar do Espirito Santos, Pascoal Meirelles, Marcelo Martins, Sizão Machado e Nelson Veras. Em 1985 criou na França o Quarteto de Pianos com Martial Solal, Jaki Byard, e Paul Bley. Entre os artistas com quem Jeff tem se apresentado incluem-se tambem Freddie Hubbard, Eddie Harris, Steve Lacy, Kenny Wheeler, André Ceccarelli, Charlie Mariano, Lars Danielsson, Hein van de Geyn, Norma Winstone, Rick Margitza, Sheila Jordan, Johnny Vidocavich, Karim Ziad, e Alfredo Rodriguez. Sempre aberto a novos sons, formou o duo “Blind Data” misturando jazz e “new music” com Andrew Schloss no radio drum. Jeff tem se apresentado com seu grupo no Nice Jazz Festival, Jazz Festival San Rafael, Jazz a la Plantation Festival na Martinica, Paris Jazz Festival, Jazz D'Or Festival, New Morning, Groningen Jazz Days, Madajazzcar Festival em Madagascar e sinumeras turnês européias. Em 1996 Jeff se apresentou durante três semanas nos Blue Note Clubs de Japão com seu trio e a cantora brasileira Lisa Ono. Na América Latina, Jeff também tem marcado presença no Festival de Jazz do Paraguai, Jazz en Lima, e turnes de Honduras, El Salvador, Ecuador, Republica Dominicana, Chile e Colômbia. Entre os seus 17 CDs como lider podemos citar CD “Sky Dance”, gravado no Rio de Janeiro com a participação especial de Gilberto Gil como vocalista, alem de Artur Maia, Alexandre Carvalho, Carlos Malta, Marcelo Martins, Sizão Machado e Carlos Balla, entre outros.
