The band, FIVE, started when Kevin and Brian went on a hiking trip in the Tetons. Kevin and Brian had gone to high school together in the mid 70's and both played in the band. They branched out after high school. Kevin went to Vegas and Brian stayed in Salt Lake City. Both expanded their music careers seperately. It wasn't until a high school reunion concert featuring Kevin as a member of the "Four Freshmen" that they met up. Brian was contracting a concert in Jackson Hole, and asked Kevin if he wanted to participate. After the gig, they discussed the possibility of recording together.

Their first cd, GOOD PALS, was released in 2002. GOOD PALS climbed the jazz chart to number 23.

Since then, the cd's UP JAZZ CREEK and TALES OF THE TETONS have also been released. UP JAZZ CREEK climbed to number 31 and TALES OF THE TETONS worked hard to get up there, but got bogged down in "Chartbound" five different times.

A new cd is in the works. Brian and Kevin work on their songs seperately, emailing the charts to each other. Logistically, it is difficult to connect from time to time. But we are always looking for opportunities to play.

Although the band five rarely meets up, Kevin and Brian both play gigs regularly around the country.

The band FIVE records with Tom Warrington on bass, Joey Singer on piano, and John Abraham on drums.

Influences: Too many to mention, but the list includes: J.J. Johnson, Carl Fontana, Frank Rosolino, Urbie Green, Don Grolnick, Phil Woods, Pete Christlieb, Michael Brecker, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Sonny Stitt, Bob Mintzer, Tom Scott, Dexter Gordon, David Sanborn, Stan Getz, Joe Pass, Pat Metheny, Larry Carlton, etc. etc. etc.
Sounds Like: The unique combination of trombone and tenor sax creates a color that sounds like a different instrument. Dubbed a "saxobone" by a prominant Hawaii jazz dj, and "happy jazz" by several others, our sound consists of main stream jazz, a bit of bebop, and a touch of latin.
