Peace in the Park is an annual free festival celebrating creativity, unity and understanding within the Sheffield community. The aim is to work towards peace and solidarity by bringing communities together through artistic, musical and vocal expression. Peace in the Park has been running for four years and each year collects money for nominated charities.
In 2003 the first Peace in the Park was held on Devonshire Green in Sheffield City centre, evolving from grassroots protests in opposition to war. The festival hosted a venue for local bands, artists, musicians, campaigning groups and members of the public to come together in unity, making a solid commitment to peace.
In 2004 the festival moved to the lush Endcliffe park, giving enough space for the festival to accomodate a live stage, open-mic stage, healing area, democracy cafe, dance tent, kids area and many more stalls. Money was raised for Assist, a charity supporting destitute assylum seekers, and WaterAid.
On 11th June 2005 we started the first of two years in the General Cemetery in Sharrow, bringing welcome attention to one of the most beautiful and un-spoilt green areas in central Sheffield. More than £1500 was raised for the Archer Project, supporting homeless people in Sheffield, and the Intermediate Technology Development Group, which provides practical solutions to poverty all over the world.
Peace in the Park 2006 again in the general cemetry was an absoloute belter raising money for Heeley City Farm with great sets by Bison, Poke and the much missed Where's Schmidt.
Peace in the Park returned to Endliffe Park amongst slavering sea monsters, poetical pirates, brilliant bands, searing solo-musicians, delightful DJs, coruscating comedians, demonic drummers, face-painters, films, fantastic food, and much more festival fun! See Flickr and Indymedia for pics. We raised over £3000 for Sheffield Assist and Stepping Stones Nigeria!
In 2008 we raised £3000 for Art in the Park, Ben’s Centre and Chernobyl Children Lifeline. The festival was in the beautiful Ponderosa Park in Upperthorpe and it was right good.
2009 will see the peace back at The Ponderosa Park on Saturday 6th June with a theme of movement. Check out the upcoming events for Peace in the Park in the months prior to the festival for some more peace.

NOMAD Homeless Advice and Support Unit is an independent organisation which offers advice, support and practical help to homeless or inadequately housed people, or those in housing need. NOMAD believes that everyone has the right to a decent, safe and affordable home. International Good Cause - Village Aid

Village Aid is an international development charity supporting a number of projects in West Africa. For example in Sierra Leone, we work with young people, helping to promote peace and unity amongst the community in a country which is still overcoming a long civil war. We also help young single mothers gain skills to help them become employable. We also support an orphanage and provide uniforms and school equipment for children as well as scholarships for young adults.
