The Cathedral

About Me

Formed in 1982 by Paul Kappa and Roger Jones. Originally called 'Circle of Poverty'...this GSCE Geography term was soon dropped for the more Celestial/Gothic 'The Cathedral'. with 167 songs to their name between 1982 to 1989 this Kappa/Jones partnership was indeed prolific. The band was influenced by early 80's post punk/alternative acts like The Cure, New Order, Joy Division, The Gang Of Four, Shriekback,Echo and the Bunnymen, The Cocteau Twins and others. Starting as a two piece with a drum machine, the band later enlisted Liam Rice as a drummer. Experiments with funk rock and hardcore folk followed, but was all over, bar the shouting, by 1989. One of the very first bands to play the new Cavern club in Liverpool in 1984. Paul Kappa is still there....across the road next door to the site of the old 'Erics'... on Mathew Street every Saturday...where Liverpool music just happens..... like magic!
