About Me

D-Cypher was born in Valdosta, GA in 1985. He came to San Antonio, Texas, by way of Panama City, Florida. Forced to move frequently as the product of a military family, San Antonio was the last stop on the road as his father retired from the Air Force. Moving here on a hope and a dream, D-Cypher's family struggled to make ends meet having to constantly move from rented house to house and to apartments.

Seeing his parents struggle created an urge for success within D-Cypher. Always striving to be the best in whatever he did, D-Cypher excelled at most everything he attempted. At a young age most everyone could see he was destined to be successful in life. He was very focused, very brilliant, and very social, never having trouble making friends, or drawing attention to himself.

As the years came and went, D-Cypher endured much adversity. Constantly having to see his family move and being kicked out of places was painful for him. In addition the family faced many problems, relationship wise, and legal wise. Everyday seemed to get harder. Seeing his father, sister, and brother trip along the way making mistakes made D-Cypher want to be the best he could be. Seeing his mother cry nightly became a breaking point. Filled with many emotions D-Cypher began to unleash his feelings through the form of poetry.

In the mid 90's D-Cypher became exposed to hip hop. Listening to the sounds of people like Jay-Z, Nas, Busta Rhymes, and other east coast artists, he never really had a true sense of Texas music. In High School he started turning his poems into raps. He would record tracks on a low budget computer with a cellphone microphone. It wasn't until the age of 17 that he began to take his craft seriously. His brother, James, was friends to a producer by the name of J-Fan of Invasian Records. James was a singer, and at the time J-Fan was giving him beats to write to. D-Cypher, at the time known as CDUB, got ahold of the beats and felt the vibe, so he wrote the first 2 songs he would ever publicly release, "I'm Sorry" and "If Ya'll Don't Know". He recorded both track on his brothers karoake machine. The tracks were accepted by those who heard them, at which point D-Cypher felt he should submit them as a demo to J-Fan. Invasian records was big on a R&B and Texas style raps, however D-Cypher was neither. His lyrics and style wasn't that of a traditional Texas artists. J-Fan listened to the demo and declined him a spot with the label.

After he graduated he worked with a few other labels and did some music with them, but everytime things seemed to go wrong. Every situation presented new obstacles as he was constantly getting left out in the cold due to his producers abandoning him to relocate, or getting arrested. During this time D-Cypher was trying to put himself and his music out online and needed some artwork to go with his music. He asked a graphic artist if he could make him a cover for one of his tracks and he was rudely declined. Not taking it too well, he began to teach himself to make artwork just as he taught himself to rap. With every passing moment he studied art and made it his business to get better, until he reached a point where other artists would ask him to do work for them. As a side hustle he would do art, but remembering how he was treated he vowed to make the work affordable for artists on their grind who don't have a ton of money to spend.

Not too long after that D-Cypher attended Northwest Vista College, where he had transferred to after 3 semesters at UTSA. He worked fulltime, was a fulltime student, and still maintained art and music on the side. He almost completely laid down his pen and pad after all the issues he faced on his musical journey. The constant frustration of losing producers and places to record became too much of a burden. However, at the time he did decide to start on a project with local San Antonio Rapper, and friend, Onivert Neb. The project was called "Hit Em' Where it Hurts". There was alot of talent displayed by both artist on the tracks recorded, but due to a low budget, and lack of quality vocals the tracks were never released to the streets and the album died.

At this point options were running slim. In 2005, While in his first semester at Northwest Vista he signed up for this Midi Music course in order to enhance his musical prowess. He decided at this point with all the issues he had with production that he would learn to produce for himself. While in the course of about 13 students, he met Greg G. Instantly he was impressed by the talent and ability that was displayed in their coursework. While they became friends in class, it never extended to any work outside of class. D-Cypher was still trying to grind and start his own label. The semester ended and the two parted ways, only 2 cross paths 2 semesters later. D-Cypher took a journalism course and needed to do an interview of someone for a project. He decided to pull the number up in his phone to interview Greg G. "The Golden Child". After the interview D-Cypher extended the offer to help Greg with any artwork that he needed in exchange for beats and production. The deal was made, and the two got what they needed. Seeing the Dynamak Movement made D-Cypher want to become a part of the clique and then things became more serious. Dynamak at the time was losing artist constantly, which made King Mike and Greg G. skeptical of any new comers. D-Cypher faced many challenges and was tested on his path to get into the clique, constantly being thrown artwork and having to attend shows. Eventually he was accepted into the clique where he formed a tight bond with Greg G., and he was first featured on The Mixtape Volume 3 on the track "Take it to the Top".

Since then D-Cypher has been heavily featured on the mixtape vol. 4 and vol. 5. You will also hear much of him on the highly anticipated debut album, "The Inauguration". It's been a steady grind but he does maintain. He does have a busy lifestyle always occupied, but always puts music and art above all else. His musical style is still one of the most unique in the city of San Antonio, and probably one of the most unique period. He is a true lyricist with the ability to adapt to most any kind of track, and prides himself on making good music with a meaning. He continues to stray from the norm following his own path to success, and will continue to force lyricism in the faces of the people in an effort to revive hip hop to the state in was in back in the 80's early 90's. Right now D-Cypher currently is in the studio recording tracks for his own solo album "Destined To Make It: Chapter 1", and is working on trying to build his own solo label, "Southern Lyricism", by himself. Right now he's just searching for talent to collaborate with on a more personal level in hopes that he can get other lyrically gifted artists to join him on his journey to reach the pinnacle of hip hop success. You can expect to see the album release by January 6th 2009. Right now the focus is to promote the music as much as possible, and get the right people to hear it and understand it. This is only the beginning, the future is bright, if you believe in this movement then join the cause. Look out for much more in the coming months, new music will be coming constantly so listen for the updates. The revolution of hip hop is coming in D-Cypher, and his voice will be heard in an effort to revive the rap game with his Dynamak Entertainment family as well; Greg G., Noe, Young Champ, and King Mike. Shout outs to the homies Big Jay, C.J., and Sean Jones. Stay tuned.
