About Me
Mocking Shadows has been entertaining crowds across Canada for over 10 years with their own brand of soul, reggae, blues and R&B. Drawing from their “old school†roots the shadows have developed a contemporary sound that has attracted a younger demographic while still maintaining their original fan base. Although the line up has changed significantly in recent years, the quality of music, showmanship and creativity has only increased. The result is a strong new sound that solidifies the Shadows’ place in the new Canadian Music scene.
The current line up draws talent from former members of such successful Canadian bands as the Planet Smashers, the Hi-Phoniqs and Interstellar Rootcellar. This line up features a variety of keyboards, full horn section, guitar, bass, drums and 4 vocalists.
The band has played music festivals, theatres and venues of all styles and genres including performances with: The Tragically Hip, ZZ Top, 54/40, Wide Mouth Mason, Jann Arden, Reba Macintire, Leanne Rimes, Randy Bachman, Lighthouse, Colin James, The Powder Blues Band, Doug & The Slugs, Trooper, Downchild Blues Band, and many others. One of the highlights of the band’s earlier years was two Canadian tours with the legendary BB King, once in 2001 and again in 2002.
The Shadows have also been nominated for various awards throughout western Canada, including:
2002 Best Calgary Band (Calgary Herald Entertainment Staff),
2002 Prairie Music Awards Nomination,
2003 Won Canadian Musician Magazine Talent Search,
2003 Western Canadian Music Awards Nomination,
2004 Western Canadian Music Awards Nomination,
2006/2007 Best Calgary Band (People’s Choice FFWD Arts & Ent. Weekly), and
2008 Avenue Magazine Best Musical Act.
Their last 5 CD’s have received airplay on over 200 radio stations worldwide with a combined listener-ship of well over 3 million. Currently the band is releasing their 6th album called "The Sound" to rave reviews across the country.
