About Me

I'm an engineer/producer who made a start in Chicago. In late 2006, I left a great job making records at Chicago's Engine Studios for what I felt was an even better opportunity; to leave the midwest, move to LA, surf, and work with the local scene's slew of indie bands.Because the better part of my music experience was working as the "go-to" engineer for producer extraordinaire Brian Deck(Modest Mouse, Secret Machines, Califone), I have to my engineering credit a bunch of records for Sub Pop, like Iron & Wine (Our endless Numbered Days,Passing Afternoon,Woman King), Holopaw, Fruitbats, and others. And because of those 5 years working with Deck & Engine Studios, I gained tons of actual record-making experience using SSL, Trident, & Neve consoles, Studer multitrack tape machines, Pro Tools HD,classic vintage microphones & outboard gear, but most importantly, bands that were really good. However, since moving to LA and becoming unattached with the old way of doing things, I've started going about my job of engineering/producing in a whole new way; working directly with bands outside the confines of expensive studios, and using my old school recording skills to pull off studio quality indie rock albums with sometimes just a laptop, a rehearsal space, and a budget that even an unsigned band can afford. My music taste runs from Curtis Mayfield to The Smiths to Camera Obscura to The Shins to Blackalicious to Neil Young, and I'm equally at home with analog tape or Pro Tools. I know vintage Neumann microphones as well as I know Fender Jaguars, toy pianos, and large orchestras.
