Vizion is not the same; his vocals combine reggae, dancehall and hip hop into a style that is uniquely his whilst his lyrics reveal a complex character behind the voice. In January 2007, the young artist was instantly acclaimed as his debut single “Girl I Need You†caught the attention of the public, and held it, with regular airplay on Barbadian airwaves.
Born to an English mother and a Barbadian father in September 1986, Oliver Louis Gale a.k.a Vizion grew up an original island boy. Surrounded by Caribbean culture, beaches, waves and the sound of reggae and dancehall, Barbados was the melting pot where it all started. At a young age Vizion was writing lyrics and chanting, with early influences coming from artists like Bounty Killer, Sizzla, Capleton and Scare Dem Crew.
However, it wasn’t until later, when he realized the truth in the lyrics of reggae and the positive influence music itself can have, that he taught himself to sing, changed his lifestyle and took music seriously as an artist with a message. It was around this time, aged 18, that he got the name Vizion while reasoning with a DJ.
Since the release of “Girl I Need Youâ€, Vizion has performed in Barbados, Trinidad and England with many of the industry’s top reggae artists. These include Sizzla, Beres Hammond, Steel Pulse, Pressure, Richie Spice, Capleton, Baby Cham, Jah Cure, Capleton and Buju Banton. He has also performed at shows with UK hip-hop artist Tynchy Strider and a host of Barbadian artists including reggae veteran David Kirton. Vizion’s most significant shows to date were “Reggae on the Hill ’07 & ‘08†and “Reggae on the Beach ‘08†which had audiences of over 15,000 people.
Following the making of the internationally broadcast music video for “Girl I Need You†and the release of songs such as “What They Say†and “Business as Usualâ€, Vizion was recognized in his home country when he became a 3-time nominee for “Best Reggae Artistâ€, “Best New Artist†and “Best Reggae Single†at the 2007-08 Barbados Music Awards.
Currently studying in Bristol, England, Vizion has continued to showcase his versatility with releases such as “Caught Ya†which was heavily rotated in Barbados, the high energy dancehall track “Not Like I†and a reggae/hip hop mixtape release called “Can’t Stress Meâ€.
