Ellen studied Art and Graphic design at the Sint Lucas institute both in Antwerp and Brussels.
Through all the posibilities it has to offer and the fact that it is a fashion metropole she decided it was simply logical she would live and work in Antwerp.
After making a few interior designs for several shops in the early years she got more and more interested in working with spaces and shapes as well as pulling objects out of their context and using them in different environments or giving new functionalities to things.
When she started combining this with her interest in fashion and people (and animals) Flanel was born.
Flanel is Ellen's own brand that has been making several collections, making accessories for existing brands as well as creating her own lines of clothes.
In 2007 Flanel has been growing steadily with a line of Doggy Fashion, a collection of children accessories amongst several other projects that are still in shops right now.
For Ellen, every assignment or idea is a challenge to re-use existing materials into a different context without decreasing their value. On the contrairy, she will use all her knowledge and creativity to add new aspects to the creation, to find new value in an object other people would refer to as 'worthless'.
And apart from all this she still finds time to teach Art two days a week in Mechelen.
Ellen is a person that never stops thinking, working, creating, designing....
She was also the second place finalist of the customisez-moi contest 2007....
