About Me

Most of you know me as Big Slli'm. I have created this myspace page on behalf of my mother, Theresa Barnes.
On 12/25/2006 - Christmas Day - my mother suffered a severe stroke. This acute thalamic stroke occurred due to her inability to access the quality care of genuinely concerned medical professionals.
My mother was a school teacher at a very small academy started by her church. After the stroke, I discovered her paystubs. She was making less money than entry level Public school teachers.
My mother has endured health issues since her childhood, but still managed to raise three of us with no help from my father.
I have watched my mother struggle her entire life. She fought to open doors for me, and taught me vital life lessons that are helping me to break the cycle of poverty my family has endured for a generation. Now she lies in a nursing home, trapped inside her own body.
I am appealing to the community for assistance.
My mother, like myself, is also a poet. She has never touched stage, or shared her poetry in public. Only with me and a few select family members. She is a talented artist, and I would like to publish her work for her, so that she would receive the financial benefits of her talent. If you would like to make a donation, you can contribute to my mission of publishing and recording my mother's poetry. I also intend to use donations and sells revenue to help her start over, and possibly help others who need a second chance after battling with stroke and it's after effects. Many of the charities I have sought are filled with bureaucrats. It makes me wonder why we donate to them at all, if people in need are not able to get the help when it counts.
Where organizations fail, communities succeed. So I am humbly requesting help for my mother, and the others we will seek to assist. Please spread the word and give others who want to help a chance to contribute.
Thank you for your time, love and support.
