Bryan began playing the guitar at the age of eleven. Growing up primarily influenced by classic/southern rock and alternative music, Bryan began to mimic the melodic structure of the bands he cared so greatly about, learning the concept of song writing from a very early age. He then formed with his first band a year later, performing at community centers and youth mixers all over Ohio. It was during those early stages of performing that Bryan learned other various instruments including bass guitar, percussion, and keyboards.
In 2002 Bryan released his first self titled C.D. The album was a short-run indie release on Bryan’s own personal record label. It quickly grabbed attention in the local scene and Bryan began performing at Coffee Houses and Universities. In ’04 Bryan performed at a lecture hall in Ohio State University with Columbus jam band, The Barry Blankenship Bland. It was there that Bryan sold 300 copies of his newly pressed album. In ’04 Bryan toured the Chicago circuit with other indie artist.
In 2005 Bryan hooked up with local group Evolution. They quickly began their assault on clubs in the valley and released an LP in 2006 that resonated threw the valley and influenced the local scene heavily. It was during this period of time that Bryan began writing the material for his first solo effort in nearly two years.
In 2006 Bryan released the E.P. “Midnight Thoughtsâ€. It was a four song e.p that became the manifestation of some of the sounds that Bryan was looking for. Bryan began playing local venues and colleges around ohio promoting the e.p. The e.p had a short run release of 200 copies and quickly sold out. This body of work became the foundation for the journey in to "surrender".
Bryan began working on a collection of songs that would secure his authenticity and document the experiences that had taken place from spending years working and performing in the independent scene. Bryan began recording the effort at his home studio and the collection took nearly a year to complete. Bryan then took the work to Sacred Sound recording studio in Martins Ferry where he worked with Andrew D’Cagna on the rest of the material.
“Surrenderâ€, the latest attempt from Bryan Blake, is a LP that is centered in a great emotional atmosphere. The title track to the Album explains a journey of losing hope, letting go, and finding the reasons to hang on. Darker aspects of Blake’s personality steer their way to the surface in “waking the dead†and “the uncertainâ€, resonating with the influence of Alice in Chains and Nine Inch Nails. The album is centered on the song “stand up become†with its message to fight when you think you can’t anymore. The last track, “a thought in the A.M.â€, which appears to be an epilogue, leaves you with the recollections of a battle yet to be won.
Bryan continues to work with Evolution and they are currently writing new material for their up and coming sophomore effort. Evolution continues to perform around the valley and in venues in the mid west. Bryan is currently working on a series of acoustic shows threw out the Ohio Valley.
