PennyLeen is a professional all-round vocalist. Although she's all-round, she must say that soul, blues and a piece of rock truly is her 'thang'. Call them roots, call them first-loves, call them how you like... Honest music that comes straight from the heart. With a good swing, soulful feel or nice groove... yeah, that's the music she likes most.PennyLeen started singing when she was just a little girl. With her father being a professional musician (bassguitar), it was easy to get in contact with all kinds of music. She loved to sing and to dance! When she was about 15 years old, she started playing the saxophone. It was love at first sight! Hans Dulfer invited her on stage and taught her how to play and to improvise. Not in a way by giving lessons or advices, but by communicating through music. Because there's no need for words... Music says it all by itself. PennyLeen always was welcome on his stage and Hans' influences were (and still are today) indescribable. When she was 17 she met Rosa King. Rosa seemed to be a perfect mentor to teach PennyLeen how to perform. And oh, how she liked the gigs with Rosa. Miss King really was a wonderful person. Very special, protective and one of a kind. Sadly enough Rosa died in 2000 due to heart failure. PennyLeen misses her still.PennyLeen liked the saxophone, but she missed practising her oldest passion... Singing! In a lot of bands she combined playing the sax with singing. Blues with Backstreet and Kaz Lux (former singer of Dutch band Brainbox), Ana Popovic and Tineke Schoemaker (singer of Dutch bluesband Barrelhouse), soul with Hot Cargo and SugarFree, disco and hardrock with The Band Of Glory and all kinds of music you can think of with the Prime Time Tunes BigBand. After finishing her education at the Academy for Music, she became the singer of ALPHA. With this band she rocked Holland! She joined the band for two years and loved to play with these guys.Nowadays, (besides her work as a free-lance vocalist) PennyLeen is a teacher! In High School she educates childeren from the age of 12 until 18 all things about music. And she loves it! She also teaches at a well-known Academy for Theatre and a Academy for Music & Performing Arts.Check her 'Juf Krebbers site': www.pennyleen.nlFor more information about her workshops you can visit www.myspace.com/pennyleenworkshops.
