About Me

............................................................ ...........................................

All week, I have songs in the front of my brain. I put grooves, licks and progressions into my ipod then on the road (in my Freightliner), put the lyrics and melody together. Saturdays I do guitars, keyboard, vocal arrangements and mouse clicks. Many of the songs are a surprise as they take shape and develop. That is the amazing part of this whole process....it's like a sculptor chipping away to see a work reveal itself. It's not like I saving the planet or doing something so seriously profound. I just get a kick out of seeing were ideas can go. Lots of fun. Many more songs to come.

I began music in high school playing trumpet under the direction of Stan Passfield in concert and stage bands in Orillia, Ontario. Big band, jazz, and dixieland music formed the basis for my musical education. I picked up guitar at 17, playing self taught in rock bands doing covers. The combination of formal instruction in school together playing by ear as a guitarist allows me a well rounded blend of experience to draw upon.Music was put on hold for 2 years as I went on a mission for the Mormon church in Los Angeles, CA. That 2 years of service has had a profound effect upon shaping of my character.

Upon return to Ontario, I enrolled in a drafting and design at Humber College. I discovered the great jazz program at Humber and by halfway through my first year in drafting, the music department was my regular hang out, receiving private lessons from Peter Harris for a time. Further studies continued with Toronto session guitarist, Guido Luciani. There have been many bands over the years, but now I enjoys independence writing and recording in my home studio. I am currently playing in a band called TONE BROTHERS.

"Every time I sit down with my gear, time melts away. Curiosity and excitement well up in the creative process. All you start with is an idea. To take it from conception to a song that can be played by anyone still amazes me. I love the process. It has nothing to do with vain musical aspirations... I just love making music." ~ Mike

I wrote ALL A WONDER for my daughter Shawna. I was thinking of her toddler years, how she had such an excitement for life. She's grown now, but that independent personality is the same. I love her. I ...
