About Me

Tachikoma, born *data removed* in Vancouver, BC, Canada, was originally trained on piano and flute, and currently also plays guitar, bass, drumkit, synth, turntables, mandolin, banjo, and timpani, in addition to his primary instrument, the computer. In the late 90's he played in, wrote for and arranged for a Canadian ska band known as the Malchiks. In 2000, he moved to Taiwan and began to record music with an acoustic guitar and a laptop. He also DJ'ed extensively in Taipei. He later lived in Japan, where he began to collaborate with Signalform --- the collaboration began after he downloaded a track from their website, sampled it, and remixed it. His first official album was released on UK-based Shima Records in 2004, and he also performed solo in Vancouver during 2005, where he and some collaborators founded a combination blog and record label, www,blipsandifs.blogspot.com. His work as a soundtrack composer is documented on IMDB.com. Currently he is back in his hometown, Taipei, making music with a laptop, a DX7 and a pair of gameboys. The Tachikoma moniker is a reference to his extensive sampling of anime soundtracks and J-Pop.
