DJ Paul Goodyear

This fabulous story begins when a twelve year old Paul Goodyear buys his first disco record, “You make me feel (Mighty Real)” by the late disco sensation Sylvester. He had found the “love” in his life…..It was music.
No one trick pony, it would seem ridiculous to put Paul Goodyear into a box. Hearing him while on the dance floor you will hear a mix of hypnotic tribal, dynamic disco, electro with a funky vibe and loads of top-notch house. He credits his lasting success as a DJ producer and remixer to his ability to constantly evolve and move with the times.
In 1991 before the advent of digital music software he was asked to do a re-edit of an obscure Pet Shop Boys track “Miserabilism” for Hot Tracks, a DJ service label based in San Francisco. The label was part owned and produced by renowned remixer Chris Cox. That was the beginning of a list of over 250 remixes and re-edits Paul created for DJ service labels such as Rhythm Stick, Discotech, EuroTracks, OzzMix, Direct Hit and his own successful ACE DJ remix service. Paul truly believes in the power of the dance remix and the accessibility this gives to the wider market. To this end he has been on the remixing team for DMC records, one of the last standing DJ remix labels since 2007 with regular releases. Having long ago moved beyond the tape reels to full studio productions, Paul spends more and more time producing and writing music. His recent move from Australia to Europe was to increase the profile and distribution of his record label TomCat Music, which was launched in 2006 on music download site Beatport.
Dance music is for sharing and collaboration in the studio is a must in Paul’s book. One of Paul’s closest friends, Stephen Allkins helped foster this love of collaboration when the two worked together on the first “Love Tattoo” release “History of Disco”. This track was picked up by Pete Tong for his then, brand new “Essential Recordings” label in 1999 and championed by the likes of Danny Tenaglia and Boy George. Paul co-wrote and produced 5 of the tracks on the second Love Tattoo album “Bodywork” and the partnership continues with a track already written for the third Love Tattoo album and more slated for the fourth offering. Paul and Australian House DJ Nathan G together were “Lifestylus”. They received huge props from John Digweed in 2001 for their track “Spinnin” when he named it the best Australian dance track of that year and by Phil K who selected it for release on his Balance 004 Comp.
A cover version of Sylvester’s “Take me to Heaven” produced by Paul with vocalist Shauna Jensen was picked up by TV program “Queer as Folk”. More recently, in 2007, Paul’s track “Disco!” was picked up by NYC house label Nervous records. That same year Goodyear started writing with the 1980’s high-energy legend Paul Parker who has credited him with being instrumental in his chart comeback.
Paul has also tried his hand in the pop domain, producing the Deep Obsession Album “Infinity” which scored three 1’s on the NZ pop charts. While definitely the most successful, Deep Obsession were only one of the many up and coming Australasian artists who used Paul’s talents in the studio.
Paul is also a chart-topping Remixer. 2008 was the year he was first involved with a US Billboard dance Chart 1 with his remix of Kristine W’s “The Boss”. This was a place he had been aiming for since he first got a taste of this chart in 2002 when Lifestylus remixed Taylor Dayne’s “How Many” which reached no. 8 and again in 2003 when Deborah Cooper’s “Real Love” hit number 7.
If you see a pattern – you’re right! Paul loves a Diva vocal and has remixed Whitney Houston and Toni Braxton for BMG records Australia, along with Tina Cousins, Karen “Hotshot” Young, Lonnie Gordon and Mary Kiani. Out now is Linda Clifford’s “How Long” and soon to be released is “I Finally Found Love” by House Diva Angie Brown. Also due for release are remixes for the Boogie Pimps (“Without You”) and “You’re the Best Thing” sung by the male with a Diva voice Peyton.
First and foremost a working DJ Paul has spun all over the globe: From the forecourt of Sydney’s Opera House, and Australia wide to London, Amsterdam, Rio, New York, San Francisco, Barcelona, Singapore, Bali, Mexico, Miami, Auckland, Fire Island, Los Angeles, Madrid....and that’s just recently. All this international work means Paul brings a diverse flavor to his rhythms and he revels in all aspects of his job. It doesn’t matter if the audience are gay, straight, mixed; peaktime or after hours; as he gives from the soul for every set he plays.
Paul Goodyear is The DJ that is comfortable playing in an intimate local bar, supporting Linda Clifford or Pamala Stanley with a classics disco set, chatting and playing on dance music radio; working the clubbers into a frenzy at club nights all over the world; playing for 20,000 people in a football stadium and headlining at an international party event such as Sydney’s Mardi Gras, which he has done on numerous occasions. 2008 saw the 30th anniversary of this incredible party and of all the DJs in all of the world, it was Paul that was chosen to bring Mardi Gras to a close. It was 8am, there were 12,000 party goers still dancing and on came Sylvester’s “You make me feel (Mighty Real)”
