WHO?C O U R T N E Y C H A M B E R SI always knew I wanted to do music. From the time I was born I was screaming a melody. When I was a little girl, my father would tell people I was going to be a singer one day, I would emphatically interject with “No dad, I’m going to be a music artist!â€. Somehow even at that age, being called a singer sounded like I was going to end up a lounge act in Vegas and I knew I wanted to do more than just sing music, I wanted to create it.I wrote my first song when I was 10 and continued to write throughout high school, but had little interest in getting involved in choir or band, I sort of kept to myself musically. When I went to college I suffered from temporary insanity and thought I’d go to school to become a psychologist, but after dating a nutjob, I decided music was my destiny and went for my dream and studied music at Fullerton College as a voice major. I’m really glad I changed my mind.In 1996, I started performing locally throughout LA and OC and in 2001 released my first record “Imperfect Like Meâ€. After a year, I already had the music for my next record and decided to put together a band for this one and in 2004 I released my sophomore album “Higher Placesâ€. But by the time I had released the record, so much music for the next record was pouring out of me already and I was anxious to get back to the studio. This time I recruited the help of Sean Hoffman (of American Music Club) to produce my next endeavor.. I was stretched musically, emotionally and mentally, but every drop of blood was well worth it and in 2007 released my 3rd album “Bigger & Brighterâ€. With the aid of my good friends and bandmates, Jeff Hawley on bass, Mel Flores on drums and percussion as well as Sean on guitar and keys, the songs came together and came to life. Those who have moved me and influenced my work over the years: Patty Griffin, Sarah McLachlan, Neil Young, Jeff Buckley, Aretha Franklin, CCR, Our Lady Peace, Peter Gabriel, Beethoven, Tori Amos, Sheryl Crow, and Radiohead just to name a few.So what are my plans? To keep making music until the wheels fall off.
"Courtney Chambers is not only one of the most gifted songwriters
I have ever met, she is an accomplished guitarist, keyboardist and vocalist
who also teaches music. From the first time I saw Courtney perform at an
open-mic in Hollywood, I knew she had something special... Whether she is
performing with her band, or solo, Courtney's songs will move you in
ways that words can't describe... She is truly a legend in her own time!"- Dave Strauss - Flat Cat Radio
"Bigger and Brighter...one of the best local releases of 2007" - Robert Kinsler - OC Register
"...her true appeal is in soulful live performances, where she shines with starry brilliance." - (OC Weekly)
"Bigger and Brighter is an absolutely great album. It is not just a CD with one good song, the entire album is full of great tracks."
- Orlando Suazo, Warrior Radio (WNYK 88.7fm Nyack, NY)
"Courted the chambers of my heart! What an alluring voice!" (Roctober Magazine)
"Chambers seems to be the type of singer that, when performing at open mic nights and coffee houses, makes people in the audience stop in mid-sentence and take notice of her wonderfully soulful voice. For such powerful a voice, Chambers avoids the trap of making that the sole focal point, and, instead, surrounds it with radio-friendly adult alternative music that, at times, borders on rural rock. Sean Hoffman’s slide guitar on “Any Way,†“Pencil and Paper,†and “Old Fashioned†reminds of Dave Chernis’s playing on the first two Damnwells records, and it’s just enough to push those songs from good to great...Personally, I’d like to see her dive deeper into the rural rock/alt.country sound as that genre lacks strong female singers, and Chambers would stick out (in a positive way) in that boy’s club."
