Sultry nights in smoky bars, lit by whisky and cigars… hard livin’, love lost to wicked women… joy, luck, sorrow, counting tracks through tomorrow… them’s the blues baby and Joe Tucker is calling them out. Evoking storytellers such as Robert Johnson, Johnny Cash and Muddy Waters, Joe Tucker is a one-man band embodying the rhythm and soul that paved the way for rock ‘n’ roll. Simultaneously playing bass drum, high hat and guitar while singing and burning through hearty harmonica solos gives him a full band sound – not to mention it’s quite a sight to behold.Over 20 years of playing has taken Joe through just about every kind of musical style out there including classic rock, heavy metal, industrial rock, funk and Latin. He’s covered guitar, vocals, bass and percussion for various bands, most notably a 10-year run with Denton, Texas funk band Mushroom Groovy. When the dust settled, he found his heart was with the blues and his favorite instrument was, inevitably, all of the above.Skillful, melodic guitar lines and subtle drums frame gritty, soulful vocals that entice the listener to keep one ear on the beat and the other on every so-true-it-hurts lyric. Joe's songwriting talent is featured on his latest CD "Shindig" released on the Crow Records label. The album offers 15 original songs each telling their own story. Needle and Thread knows heartbreak all too well, If Only in a Dream longs for good times gone, Thin Luck Blues savors sweet revenge and Waitin' Downtown acceptingly takes you home.In addition to his heart-felt original songs, Joe's stage show features signature twists on tried-and-true favorites. Depeche Mode’s Personal Jesus, Bob Marley’s Don’t Worry, Johnny Cash’s Folsom Prison Blues, Muddy Waters’ Can’t Spend What You Ain’t Got, Everclear’s Santa Monica and Willie Dixon’s Spoonful are always crowd pleasers. With about 100 cover songs under his belt, three-hour sets are not unusual at a Joe Tucker gig. Neither is a sweaty, satisfied fan base once he’s done.Joe Tucker has been making his mark on the DFW music scene in a variety of venues. A regularly featured artist at the Denton Arts & Jazz Festival and Fry Street Fair, you can also find him playing at local clubs around the Metroplex. As the saying goes, ‘everybody gets the blues.’ Joe Tucker didn’t invent them – he just keeps you coming back for more.
