After about a year long run of a mixture of genre/member changes Tonight for the Silent is as good as dead.
I was really satisfied with our first few songs that we did. "Dance Away" was a song that I had written right down to the very core of the instrumental all the way to the lyrics, and was a tune that I could not get out of my head. So I talked with a good friend, got some band members set up and began the fast paced process of putting together this song.
We recorded two versions of the song, one clean and one rough, uploaded the rough one on our myspace and watched the play count go up and up.
A lot of people were telling me how much they loved this song, how much they loved mine and Collin's voice and how they couldn't stop listening. So that only made us decide to continue as a band. We had written and recorded two new songs "Cuore Al Cervello" and "The Sound of Me Dying".
Cuore Al Cervello is Italian meaning "from the heart to the brain" or something along the lines of that.
It's your typical song of heart break, but set to a very beautiful melody that would make you think of the snow falling in winter, the leaves falling in autumn, or the lake shimmering in the summer time.
"The Sound of Me Dying" is a somewhat joke title. A phrase that I always said and claimed one day I was going to name a song that, and so I did! The song has a sort of deeper, story-like meaning to it that you should listen to and figure out for yourself.
When we "released" those songs, they too were very popular. Cuore Al Cervello rising up to battle Dance Away on people's favorite list and the guitars from The Sound of Me Dying were famed in their own way.
Shortly after we created the songs "Kiss the Night Away" and "Draw Your Card For Now".
Kiss the Night Away was never really one of our acclaimed titles so to speak. It never really got noticed by anyone, and I think it would have done better if we had a solid fan base for people who were willing to listen to our slower stuff. It had a piano intro and a weird sort of emotional breakdown thing at the end, making it all the more dramatic.
Draw Your Card For Now was recorded at the same time as Kiss the Night Away but never released, there was really no reason for never releasing it, but it wasn't that spectacular of a song.
After recording about 5 songs, we wanted to release an EP. We had an instrumental opening song recorded, and we did two more songs, "Please Wear Red" and "Hot Cup of Hoffee".
In my opinion, Please Wear Red was one of our best, most thought out songs. Running about 7 minutes in length, with a somewhat hidden track at the end.
It was also one of our most underrated songs, the guitar work was some of the best ever made in this band. It was reminiscent of a violin and the drums were fast and upbeat. Hot Cup of Hoffee was a song that was written when me and Collin were intoxicated off our asses from god knows what. The lyrics "throw my wife, take my life and kiss the winter sun" can vouch for us. It's still a decent song none the less.
All of this taking place in less than a year, the band began to drift. Relationships ending within the band, causing awkwardness, causing a lack of wanting to play and rehearse together. Thus leading to an ultimate downfall. But luckily after some time I began to recruit all new members, with an all new sound.
We began rehearsing in early '08. We had several really genre defying songs lined up, but no money to record.
I had spoken with a good friend with a home studio about setting up to record and all systems were go.
We recorded three new songs, "Sobbing Sycamore", "Feather Fortress", and "Inertia".
These were honestly the best things me and a group of guys had ever created, and thanks to the help of a girl named Natalie Elliot who contributed back up vocals. The style was a really dark, off key chaotic and melodic mixture in all three of the songs. With lyrics very true to myself at the time. We decided to record more songs, our more indie type songs. We recorded "Black Ice Bouquet", "Vicious Gaze" and "Virgin White".
Black Ice Bouquet was the most popular of the three, followed by Vicious Gaze and I'm honestly not sure if anyone ever took the time to listen to Virgin White.
Again, we started to drift due to complications of relationships in the band, mostly just teenage drama. We had only played about three local shows, never got the money to release the EP and ultimately failed as a band.
So the final outcome, is that we are for the most part broken up.
I do have some ideas in my head of just continuing on our work as a solo project. Trying to match up to the style of "Sobbing Sycamore", "Intertia", etc. as best as possible, playing all instruments myself and just editing the recording so they're all played simultaneously. I've done it before and it's a good amount of work, but writing and playing music is a passion and something that comes easily for me.
So please, if you're interested stay posted and maybe I will have information about carrying on TFTS.
Or even if you live in the West Chester/Philadelphia area, feel free to contact me by any means and let me know if you're interested in joining.
Thanks to everyone for everything.
