My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I do love bourbon and running a search on here I found this awesome list and reviews of many types of said liquor which I will now repost.Heres an ever growing list of bourbons that i have been fortunate (and unfortunate) enough to try. Ill organize them into price brackets to give you a better idea if you ever think about trying them yourself. (note, these are san diego prices, which are relatively expensive)BOTTOM SHELF (cheapies you can find under 15 bucks)Evan Williams 7 year old, 86 proof- you can get a 750ml of this for usually 8 or 9 bucks and its good enough to where i wouldnt mind paying double that price. Its not the best of course, but it is still stronger and richer in flavor then Jack Daniels, which is more then twice the price.Jim Beam White Label 80 proof- Youll find this in any bar you go to. Nothing special here except you can get a bottle for 10 bucks. Still, Evan Williams 7 is a better buy. use this as a mixer.Ten High 80 Proof- Another cheapy you can find usually in 1.75L form for 15 bucks, usually meant for mixing.Wild Turkey 8 Year Old 101 proof- The best bourbon for the price IMO. Too bad its only available abroad or in duty free stores. I absolutely love this one and got a liter for 13 dollars on my way to Mexico. This smells, tastes and feels like it should cost 3 times as much. So smooth and rich. Too bad its not readily available.MID SHELF (15-30$).Jack Daniels 80 proof- Technically not a bourbon but hardly anyone ever notices so ill include it. There's nothing really special about the flavors of JD, its rather plain and 90 proof, doesnt really have any oomph. its a shame that people pay around 16 bucks for it.Jim Beam Black 86 proof- This is a very well rounded bourbon that stays affordable at around 16-17 bucks. well worth itWild Turkey 101 proof- Probably the best balanced bourbon on the market. Wild Turkey 101 combines robust flavor, high proof, and affordability all in one bottle. It usually costs 19-21 dollars but you cant call yourself a bourbon drinker if you havent tried this. Most bars have it so try it sometime neat or with ice and enjoy.Evan Williams Single Barrel 86 proof- The whiskey bottled here comes from one barrel, meaning it was never mixed with any other whiskey on its way to the bottle (distillerys mix hundreds of barrels together to get a consistent flavor). This is a relatively light tasting bourbon thats very gentle on the nose and tongue, I get some hints of ginger from it. At 20-24 dollars, its also a very safe buy.Elijah Craig 12 Year Old 94 proof- A really well priced bourbon at around 20 dollars. the flavors from this bourbon are very saccharine. sweet vanilla and oak are the main flavors youll find and theres really nothing offending about the nose or flavors. Its 94 proof but you wouldnt notice it, even taking it neat.Makers Mark 90 proof- This is one of the rare bourbons that uses wheat in its ingredients (instead of rye like most bourbons) The result is a softer tasting bourbon. Makers mark, is soft and easy to drink, but there arent too many flavors in it. You can get Makers for about 20-25 dollars and its good bourbon, but I find it a bit overpriced.Knob Creek 100 proof- This is a strong bourbon. Not just proof wise, but flavor wise as well. You can really get strong hints of corn and rich wood as well as hints of the yeast used during fermentation, which gives it a tangy element that you will probably notice tasting other Beam brands. This one can be a bit pricey though, I usually see it for 25-32 dollars but this is good bourbon.Woodford Reserve 90.4 proof- On the light side, I dont really find anything too special about Woodford Reserve, except for the beautiful bottle it comes in. Its about the same price as Knob Creek and if I could go back in time, i would buy Knob instead of my Woodford.Eagle Rare Single Barrel 10 year 90 proof- One of the most beautiful bourbon bottlings. Eagle Rare is a superb bourbon that smells like rich cake mix and cream puffs, and tastes very creamy and buttery. I got mine for 30 dollars and even if i could never taste it, itd be worth the beautiful bottle and its wonderful aroma.Top Shelf (+30$)-Wild Turkey Rare Breed 107-109 proof- Around 28-32 dollars, this is one of my favorites. It comes a out at barrel strength, meaning no water was used to dilute it to any specific proof (ie 80 proof, 90 proof). Coming out at barrel strength makes this bourbon one of the most complex youll find, especially for the price. This is Wild Turkey 101 on steroids, yet its flavors are still elegant and not overpowering.Bookers 122-126 proof- Another barrel proof heavyweight, Booker's should be taken with slight caution for newbs. Think of a buffed up Knob Creek (both jim beam brands). Rich wood and tangyness plus a strong alcohol taste are prevalent. This is still a delicious bourbon thats worth the 50 dollars (as long as you make it last). Its quite common in nicer restaurants and bars as well, and well worth the 8 dollars just to try at least once.Baker's 107 proof- Another one of my favorites from Jim Beam. This bourbon has the most tantalizing nose of them all i think. When i smell it, i smell rich orange zest, and even tangy grape candy to go along with the usual vanilly and wood you smell with other bourbons. the flavor profile further complients the nose. This one costs around 45 dollars and Its on my next to buy list. good bars will have this one and its uniqueness is well worth the price.Pappy Van Winkle 15 Year Old 107 proof- yet another bourbon with a great nose. The opposite of Bakers, the aromas youll smell from Pappy are rich cinnamon, nutmeg and warm raisin. This flavors are very warm and strong too. Like Makers Mark, this is a "wheater" resulting in a softer flavor profile missing the usual rye pepperiness. This has the thickest body of any bourbon Ive tasted and has an extremely long and rewarding finish. A top Notch one and WELL worth the 40 -45 dollars. You cant beat the logo on the bottle either, pure class!George T Stagg 129-141 proof- With what Ive heard about this bourbon, im not opening mine until i celebrate my arrival to Japan.Well there you have it, i hope that was informative.
