About Me

Raja Rahman
pianist
Raja Rahman has appeared in solo and concerto concerts from his native Canada to all over Europe and the United States. He has appeared in concert with Mstislav Rostropovich, Valerie Gergiev, Iona Brown and several other notable conductors as well as having been discovered by Sir Georg Solti in Hamburg who helped support Mr. Rahman’s career at its outset. A graduate (BM, MM) of The Juilliard School, Mr. Rahman studied with Seymour Lipkin, Jerome Lowenthal and was coached in chamber music by late Felix Galimir. Post graduate full scholarship studies at Indiana University were with the famous Russian pianist, Lev Vlassenko. Raja enjoyed early success in competitions such as the Canadian Music Competitions (national winner) and the YKAA International Piano Competition (grand prize). Along with colleague Charles Tauber, Mr. Rahman gave the American premiere of Janssen’s "Veranderingen" as part of The Juilliard School's FOCUS! Festival. Raja’s Carnegie Hall debut took place in 1992 followed by his Lincoln Center debut at Alice Tully Hall in 1993. Along with violist Ralph Farris, Mr. Rahman performed often at St. Paul’s Cathedral at New York’s “Ground Zero” in late 2001 to help give relief to exhausted emergency workers. Now living in Las Vegas, Raja tours extensively with the ground breaking show “Jarrett & Raja” in which a magician and a concert pianist share the same stage in an elaborate theatre production with a cast of 20 that has played the Edinburgh Festival (UK), China, London, New York and has upcoming performances all over the U.S., Australia and Malaysia.
