About Me

Footscray hosts a multicultural community with a significant Vietnamese population. The suburb has a combination of residential, industrial and commercial land, with retail activity centred around Barkly Street and industrial activity taking place in the east and north.Footscray also features the Whitten Oval, Victoria University of Technology (Footscray and Footscray Park campuses), a major rail junction of the St Albans and Werribee Railway lines, the Western Hospital and Footscray Park.Footscray's population has decreased by 925 over the 1981-2001 period. There have been significant decreases in the age groups 5-17 (-678) and 18-24 (-542), and increase in the 35-49 age group (+568). Did you know? -The name Footscray was taken from the village of Foots on the River Cray, Kent, England.

Did you know? -Footscray has been the setting of several Australian movies, the most notable being Romper Stomper which was filmed in and around Footscray in 1992. Not all scenes were filmed locally. The film Metal Skin (1994) was also set in and around Footscray.

Did you know? -Until the test cricket debut of the Melbourne Cricket Club's Brad Hodge in December 2005, the Footscray Cricket Club had produced the most Test players of any Melbourne based district cricket club. Footscray's Test representatives in order of debut are Ron Gaunt, Les Joslin, Ken Eastwood, Alan Hurst, Ray Bright, Merv Hughes, Tony Dodemaide and Colin Miller.
