His music a hybrid of cultures and influences, Antunes likes to say he doesn't look for songs or styles - rather, they find their way to him. His compositions go from elaborate choros to flamencos, allowing room for samba, tango, jazz, salsa and waltzes. As an instrumentalist, Carlinhos Antunes is equally multi talented: he plays guitar, viola, charango, kora and cuatro and is an accomplished percussionist.Perhaps his Historian background paved the way for his numerous trips in search of music. Antunes has lived in Morocco and Spain, and traveled to over 30 countries, from Cuba to Croatia through Nicaragua and Italy. His worldwide findings often are portrayed in his radio program, Axis Mundi, on São Paulo's Radio Brasil 2000 FM.Carlinhos Antunes' 7 CDs - Samambaia Quinteto, Paisagem Bailarina, Mundano and Carlinhos Antunes e Orquestra Mundana (live), Trio Atlantico, Carlinhos Antunes and Pascal Lefeuvre(Duo),Orquestra Mediterranea,Cd more Dvd, have been well received by music critics and the public. As a producer, arranger and guitarist he has collaborated with great Brazilian and international musicians, including Tom Zé, Jair Rodrigues, Susana Baca, Adoniran Barbosa, Filó Machado, Badi Assad, Grupo Tarancón, Carlos Nuñes and Canisares, Paul Winter, the Romenian Mahala Räi Band and Taraf de Haidouks, Caracas Son Siete , Samir & Wissan Jubran,Bill Kopper and 4 shure Quartet.His curiosity and interest in rhythm fusion has taken him on tours of Europe, Africa and the Americas since 1982. He has participated in the Asilah Music Festival (Marrocos), Nak (Burkina Faso-Africa), All That Festival(Netherland) ,Festival de Guitarras de Córdoba (Spain), Festival Internacional de Violão de São Paulo (Brazil), Festival de Jazz de Logroño (Spain), Festival Nuits Atypiques de Langon (França), Festival de Jazz de San Sebastián (Basque Country), Festival de Música Étnica (Brazil), Festival de Música Guajira (Cuba), Festival Internacional de Jazz de Alicante (Spain) and Frome Festival (England). Since 1987, Carlinhos Antunes realize internacional tours in Europe, Latin America and Africa wich your group.In Brazil he is also an influent musical director and cultural producer who is specialized in the fusion of different rhythms from cultures like Spanish flamenco, Arabian, Romanian Gipsy and Portuguese. In 2003, Carlinhos Antunes Quintet invited Samir and Wissan Jubran from Palestine, Antonio Chainho from Portugal and Mahäla Räi Band from Romania to many shows in Brazil in International Festival Latinidades in São Paulo city. In 2005 he created the Orquestra Mediterrânea with 25 musicians from the mediterranean countries. This work is recorded in CD and DVD by label Sesc. Actually direct the Orquestra Mundana from São Paulo with musicians from Brazil and other countries like Swiss and Greece.As an artistic producer Carlinhos Antunes has realized many public and private projects in São Paulo , Rio de Janeiro and Salvador (Bahia) such as TERSARAU, ENCONTRO É TEMPO, SANFONIA DA METROPOLE, MOSTRA INSTRUMENTAL PAULISTA, MÚSICA NO PARQUE e TODOS OS POVOS DE SÃO PAULO. He has been cultural coordinator in Diadema city and between 1986/87 he also wrote six books titled PROJETO SEM FRONTEIRAS revealing artists from America, Africa, Asia and the Medium Orient.In 2000, Carlinhos Antunes was musical director of the "Morte e Vida Severina" played in Lisbon Festival.
