The brain child of three Northampton based friends, DJ Neil Ambidge, local businessman and House Music fans Dominic Lehane and party boy and ladies man Mark Smith.
Over the last 5 years both Mark and Dominic have seen Neil's reputation grow into one of the the midlands finest young talents with his signature sound of funk fuelled House Music and thus gaining accolades and plaudits from wherever he plays. With Dominic's knowledge of putting on high quality events and Mark's years of socialising, dancing (attempting) at some of Europe's finest dance clubs, the three of them felt the time was right to bring together all their passion and experiences to create and promote a brand new club night in the heart of Northampton that offered something new, refreshing, pioneering and glamorous.
Saturday December 2nd 2006 saw the launch of Velvet at Northampton's L8 Bar. Although a venue not renowned nor obvious in it's choice for a club night, the 3 amigos had the vision and foresight that many other club promoters did not have. So not being deterred from a challenge they took over the bar for one long day and night, and with the help of family and friends, the crew created a truly stunning and sublime club environment, of which laid the foundations for Velvet's sexy glam imagery that our loyal crowd now come to love and expect.?The launch night itself went on to be a massive success having an amazing 500 people attend, and with a packed dance floor still grooving into the early hours of the morning. Thanks to this highly successful launch and follow on nights, glowing reports and word of mouth began to circulate, which then led to 3 clubs approaching Velvet Promotions.
After plenty of debating and visiting of various venues we finally found our new residency at one of Northampton's most major club players, Motion Bar & Club. Motion reflects all the style and quality the Velvet brand stands for whilst giving us a truly intimate and atmospheric surroundings. It's from here that gives Velvet the perfect platform to go on and become one of the midlands most eagerly awaited and leading bi-monthly club nights on the clubbing circuit. Viva-La-Velvet..!?
