Cut Hustlers are Derby based producers Pete 'Razorcuts' Darrington and Neil 'Traps' Cooper. Pete Darrington, raised on a diet of Afrika Bambaataa and Black Sabbath, Grandmaster Flash and The Clash, started out as DJ for a b-boy crew way back in 1984, before becoming the bass player with cult alternative rock band Cable, who released 3 albums during the 90's.
Throughout this time he continued to DJ, most notably at 'Off The Hook', a nationally renowned Hip Hop night. More recently he has had releases on 33 Throwdown and Soundly Beaten, whilst being hailed by Ninja Tunes for his cut and paste recordings (which have also received plaudits from the godfather of the genre, Steinski), He has appeared as a guest DJ on their Solid Steel Radio Show twice and appeared behind the wheels of steel at their Oxford St club residency.
Drummer Neil Cooper, like Darrington, was also in Cable, but is better known for his subsequent work with Therapy?. Nowadays, apart from being a member of Therapy?, he also runs the indie label, Sumo Construction, as well as the corresponding club night and thriving annual city wide all day music event 'Inner City Crawl', which prides itself on its eclectic music policy.
Joining forces, Darrington and Cooper aim to produce accessible slices of pop electronica. "Musicians of all types can be too po-faced and precious" says Pete. "Not just dance producers, it happens across the board - Neil and myself have talked for years about making records together that have a great hook, but can still be very cool - the two aren't mutually exclusive and in fact belong side by side - push the boundaries, but also provide something that everyone can hook into".
Apart from their original version of and a trademark Razorcuts mix, the Day One 12" includes mixes by Teenage DJ (an alias of the legendary UK DJ Greg Wilson, whose 'Teenage DJ Disco Best' 12" was a big underground success on both sides of the Atlantic) and Templeton Peck (aka Toby Tobias, who has built a solid reputation via recordings and mixes for labels like Bear Funk, Urban Myth, Rekids and Hy-Phen).
