SUMMER 2009
Born from the cacophony of the Punk and New Wave era, Drifter has pieced together their bold and colorful Summer 2009 line -- The New No Wave.
Combining the cut and paste typography methods of Punk/New Wave posters along with the energetic hand drawings that usually complemented the posters, Drifter was able to modernize the concept by introducing bold colors and putting the artwork on fashion forward bodies. The No Wave music movement that later spawned, while not clearly definable itself, provided the concept of mixing textures and patterns and juxtaposing uncomplicated graphics with heavily layered artwork. Using superior fabrics such as Supima and Tencel for their unbelievable quality and feel, the materials also become a great canvas for the saturated fabric color and graphics. The artists of the time defied the norm and Drifter, like with seasons before, is doing the same for Summer 2009.
