Mercury Road

About Me

Mercury Road first began in October 2001, as a four member band: Jay Gasper, Mark Miller, Neil Kivlin and Sean Clement. Our first gig was in February 2002, a John Prine tribute show at Andyman’s Treehouse. In April 2002, we recorded 12 tracks in a basement over a period of 5 days. Some of the songs featured on this site are from that recording.Mercury Road parted ways in the spring of 2003, to focus on our bad habits (binge drinking, gambling, marriage, etc.). We reconvened in March 2006 and added a new player, Jeff Scofield. Jeff took over the role of lead guitarist, allowing Jay to focus on pedal steel and keyboard. Our reunion gig was December 2, 2006, ironically at Andyman’s Treehouse. We are currently working on new material while reshaping the old. We will be playing out sparsely (at first) in Columbus, so that we are able to refresh our sets with new tunes. So come see us when the opportunity arises, as it may be several weeks between shows (that, and we’re a hell of a lot of fun to drink with). We encourage you to listen to our music, download it, comment on it, or rate it. We have included our lyrics for those who want to read them, and for clarity’s sake (e.g. so you don’t think “castles all in a row” is actually “assholes, all in the road”). We have also included some pics from gigs in 2003 for comedy’s sake. We hope to begin recording new material in the next year, so we'll keep you posted.
