About Me

When an ordinary person is recognised at a young age for doing extraordinary things, it is easy to be misunderstood. A musician in every sense of the word. The best Djs know that Djing is first about being able to read people and then about being able to tap into that human experience and take it on a journey, Matthew creates and plays music that gives emotion a chance to speak.Matthew Jones (formally Matt Lavelle) was born in London 32 years ago. He has been Djing for the past 13 years in which the music he’s been playing has been derided and lauded in equal measures. He started Djing in 1995 where he was co-promoter and resident for octavia, a Kent based event. He also played for the University of Greenwich, Love and Millenium nights plus other guest slots at other local events. From then on Matthew wanted fresh challenges, and wanted to see how he would fair up against other aspiring Djs in the fickle world of Djing, and what better place is there to put it into practise than Ibiza!! So in 1998 he headed out there in the hope he would be able make a lasting impression on people with his music, he was starting from fresh in a place he’d only visited on holiday, and obviously there was about a thousand other people with the same idea. That didn’t faze Matthew, he just got on with meeting people and trying to get slots at venues wherever he could. After three months of perseverance he got offered a residency at Gorms Garage where he would be playing to three hundred people each night.. He also played guest slots at the Milk Bar, Kremlin Bar, Kaos (now Eden) the notorious New Star Café which was seen by most workers as the best after club experience. He was asked to return for another seasons residency in 1999 at Gorms Garage, where he would stay until mid-june. Then moved to a new residency at the flagging New Star, brought in to do the job of getting it back to be full most mornings. He done it in a week so he was making a good impression with his music, in a vastly competitive island. He was also playing guest slots at the Ministry Magazine parties at the Café Bay Bar, guest slots for Pure Pleasure at Privilege (worlds biggest club). He also had another weekly residency for an event called Clued-up at Bar Universal, and was promoter and resident DJ for Octavia at Rumours (now Hush), and he also had guest slot’s at the Kremlin Bar, Itaca and Kiwi (now Orange Corner). Whilst he was resident at Octavia he was asked to become Quid pro Quo resident for the 2000 season, it was a brand new bar in Playa Den Bossa and wanted Matthew to give it a good start. He was starting to get established, named and pictured in Ministry Magazine and DJ Magazine, of which about 240,000 copies went out several times. He was also playing for weltreveden at club Summum plus other guest slots at other venues. He returned to the UK at the end of that season to take up a slot on Worldwide FM, an internet radio show, it was estimated his show had an audience of 5000 worldwide. Since then Matthew has been concentrating more on his production work, he’s had guest slots here and there, most notably at Kinky Malinky at the Glasshouse London, Hed Kandi , Clubclass and Harderfaster at Turnmills London and Resident at Funky Elements in Kent. With there being so many different genres and sub genres now, Matthew usually likes to play a wide selection of styles of whatever music he likes if it be electro to funky or progressive and then try’s to bring all those different elements together. December 2008 see's Matthew take on 15 exclussive gigs at the Raffles resort in Canouan, West Indies playing house music in a enviroment which is only used to reggae music.
