About Me

IF YOUR BAND NEEDS A PIANIST, YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY MESSAGE ME ON MYSPACE! I PLAY ALMOST ANY GENRE AND LOVE JAM SESSIONS!! I'M ALSO AVAILABALE FOR WEDDINGS, RECEPTIONS, GIGS, PARTIES, DINNERS, AND MUCH MORE! I'M WILLING TO TRAVEL UP TO A 50 MILE RADIUS AROUND BIRMINGHAM AND THE SAME AROUND MY HOMETOWN OF ANNISTON. I HAVE A KORG FULL SIZE ELECTRIC PIANO WITH WEIGHTED KEYS AND A FEW SOUND OPTIONS, AND I'M WORKING ON MAKING IT MORE EASILY TRANSPORTABLE FOR GIGS AND SUCH.
So, a little bit about me, the musician...I'm a first-year med student at UAB where I also went for undergrad. Orginially from Anniston, AL, I've studied classical piano for 12 years, the last four under Yakov Kasman, internationally reknowned concert pianist and Van Cliburn Silver Medalist who teaches piano at UAB. I've been a church pianist for the last five years, so Gospel and Hymns are a definite. I'm a big fan of Jerry Lee Lewis and his rock/blues piano style. It's something I try to emulate.
I love to jam and especially enjoy playing current alternative music on piano as well as a lot of classical/blues/southern rock/classic rock/emo/indie/big band/jazz/R&B/SOUL music. Phew! Basically I'm very, very versatile and open to new ideas. I really like transcribing/playing Coldplay songs on the piano. But I'm also a huge fan of Southern Rock/Gospel style music. This most definitely includes bands like The Black Crowes, Queen, and Lynyrd Skynyrd as well as John Legend and Alicia Keys.
I'm pretty good at impromptu playing or playing on the fly whenever someone needs me to play. Let me know if you need a keyboardist for something.
And above all, I just like to have fun. While I do need some extra cash to help pay the enormous med school bills over the next few years, I always just love to make music of any kind at any time, anywhere. It's always been a way to de-stress from a rigorous school or work day. And it has definitely stretched my mind and talents.
I've included on this page a bunch of videos I uploaded to my youtube page: www.youtube.com/ace1049. Check 'em out!
Thought I'd throw this one in the mix: MY COMMENCEMENT SPEECH AT UAB MAY 2007!!! Imagine how intense it is to play in front of thousands of fans. Well, I delivered this commencement address to over 8000 people in attendance at Bartow Arena on May 5, 2007. I guess you can say, I'm ready for the big shows! :)
Below are some videos from my piano ensemble concerts:
The first is a performance of Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique Op. 14 No. 2.
This is my first performance as part of UAB Piano Ensemble in the fall of 2004. The ensemble is under the direction of Tatiana Kasman, wife of Yakov Kasman, piano professor and artist in residence at UAB.
This second video is a performance of Shostakovich's 5th Symphony 2nd Movement from the UAB Piano Ensemble Fall 2006 concert.
This last one is Schumann's Pictures from the East.
