Pablo Rafael Peña, better known as “PablitoDrum” is a Dominican percussionist with more than 10 years of career as Drum teacher and professional Drum player.He is the author of following books: • Método de Enseñanza para Batería y Tambora. • Método de Enseñanza para Batería. Nivel avanzado. • Tambora y Güira.This polifacetical musician had his first Drum set at the age of 13th , practicing more than 8 hours a day with videos and books like: “Drum Solo” and “Drum Tips” from Terry Bozzio, Joe Franco, Rod Morgenstein, Simon Phillips; ¨Modern Drummer Festival 1997¨; “Back to Basics” and “The Next Step” from Dave Weckl; “Progressive Drum Concepts”, Mike Portnoy; “Mastering the Art of Afro-Cuban Drumming”, Ignacio Berroa; “Drum set Artists of Cuba”, Paul Pineda, José M. Sánchez, Samuel Formel, Jimmy Branly; “In the Pocket”, Dennis Chambers; “Snare Drum Basics”, Bob Breithaupt; “Power Drumming”, Virgili Donati, Afro-Cuban Rhythms methods for the Drumset¨, Frank Malabe, Bob Weiner; “Polyrhythm for the Drum set”, Peter Magadini; “Rhythmic Illusions”, Gavin Harrison; “Rick´s Licks”, Rick Gratton; “Transitions”, Ross Miller; “Bop Drumming”, John Riley; “Progressive Steps to Syncopation for the Modern Drummer”, Ted Reed; “New Breed”, Gary Chester; “Brazilian Rhythms for Drum set”, Duduka Da Fonseca, Bob Weiner; “The Drummer’s Complete Vocabulary”, Alan Dawson.In 1998, he started teaching, and playing with many bands, and festivals making fusion of different styles like rock, jazz, electronic, house music, afro-Cuban and Brazilian with the Dominican Rhythms, until he wrote a book about the Dominican rhythms for the Tambora applied to the Drum set player.As professional drummer, Pablo Peña is a well known and respected musician in the Dominican Republic who has participated in the most important Jazz Festivals and numerous concerts in the Country, some of them are:• 3rd Palafitos Jazz Festival, leaded Transit Jazz Ensemble in March 2004. • Cafetto Jazz Concerts nights, Transit Jazz Ensemble, November 2003, Grupo Quedunmbé in June 2004. • Casa de Teatro Internacional Jazz Festival, Rafael Mirabal and Sistema Temperado and Transit Jazz Ensemble July 2004. • La 37 por las Tablas Monday’s Jazz nights every Week as permanent drummer.Pablito Drum also won the first award place in the “Concurso Nacional de Rock Phoenix”, Grupo Nómada, Santo Domingo, D.N. Dominican Republic.Between 1995 and 1996, Pablo was Drummer Professor of the “Hogar de la Armonía” in Santiago De Los Caballeros and in 1998 until 2002 was teacher of private drummer lessons until he founded his own Drummer School in 2002 called “Drums Centro de Enseñanza Musical” being at this moment the actual director.In June 7th 2006 Pablo won the “Michael Camilo scholarship” for the Berklee School of Music, and some of his teachers were, Erguie Castrillo, Mike Mangini, Mike Rinquist, Mark Walker, John Ramsay, Francisco Melas, Yoron Israel, Mark withfie, Dave Wigert, Dave Dicenso, Joe Galeota, Winston Maccow, Victor Mendoza and Ron savage among others.At this moment Pablito Drum is in the way to expand his career as international musician and is studying Drum Performance at the Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA.
