About Me

Category is a Musician/Rapper/Producer from the fabled lands of England. Making Nerdcore influenced music, but in a gritty and hard hitting UK style... UK-GEEK-CORE will rise up, if only in my bedroom "studio".
I like Nerdcore, and I am heavily inspired by it, but I'm just not hip-hop enough for that branding. So I'm UK-GEEK-CORE.
History
Matt Quinton first started making music back in the mid-90's after hearing punk rock for the first time. Forming a band called The Crazy Goat Biters , he constantly tried writing bad punk music. The line up changed, as did the name (which was eventually shortened to KGB, after the crazy got a K, to be, you know, krazy). When he left school, and started college, KGB were getting stronger and stronger, and recorded a couple of EP's entitled "HELL (or nearest M25 exit)" and "Blood On Your Shoes". At college, studying Music Technology, Quinton learned even more about recording, synthesizing, effects, and music theory, and started branching out into electronic music. The first attempt, Project X-On 1 was a strange mix of guitar, tribal instruments, GM soundsets and off the wall vocals, recorded all to tape for that dirty sound. Thats where the seed was first laid... He continued toying with and learning all facets of Music Production - hardware, software, theory - and he even tried studying Music Production at University. The degree failed, but he learned practical skills. Then, whilst reading Penny Arcade one day, he saw a link to MC Frontalot, and everything under the name Category started. And here is hoping it continues to flow and evolve!

Solo artist... wish that would change though. If anyone wants to collaborate, or join forces in a more permanent way, let me know!
Influences: I don't want to single out any one musician, but basically all the guys on the Rhyme Torrents Board ... The genre I take most of my sound from some abstract different genres - Punk, Nerdcore, Chiptune, Ska, Happy Hardcore, Techno and just a slight little spattering of noise.

I like to think it comes out as Nerdcore, but what do I know.
Sounds Like: We sound like the resulting offspring of an unholy union between DJ Sy & MC Frontalot, with Refused as a contraceptive. That baby was allowed to grow for 5 years, listening to a solid audio diet of nothing but the theme tune to King Of The Hill and HamSTAR, which was consequently devoured by Phil Collins (Genesis Era), vomited onto a Bitshifter and Sabrepulse mixtape, that snapped in the cheap 80's standard tape player in your car that you could never afford to upgrade.

If I was you, I'ld just listen. Almost every song I make is a totally different genre.

But then also, If I WAS you, I would get off of my fat ass, turn of MySpace and go to your local play park and rediscover the joy of swings and slides. And monkey bars.

Monkey bars. You know you want to.
