The Martini Sessions

About Me

The Martini Sessions from Newcastle Upon Tyne have all the necessary ingredients to become cult heroes in the world of music.Their stunning live shows, beautiful melody and youthful charm have earned them an army of followers at a time when north-east bands are firmly in the spotlight.Led by their charismatic, Basouki wielding frontman, Kristos Kabiotis. The band enjoy a 60s sound reminiscent to the La’s and have the style and added cool of the Stone Roses. To say Lee Mavers was under the spell of the 1960s is one of music’s greatest understatements, and his obsession with re-creating that sound, in the end, proved to be his downfall. The Martini Sessions are quite different to this, however.Although they use this era as an inspiration, their music is bright and refreshing and promises to offer so much more than a mere flash in the pan attempt to bring back a decade long gone.Kabiotis, 20, said: “Our songs are about the past, what we’ve been through and what scares us.“You’re born, and you die. And whatever you write in between that has to come from the soul.”Songs like ‘I’ll Be Born Again’ and ‘Shattered Souls’ have all the classic signs of textbook British rock ‘n’ roll’. The choruses are big, the vocals are raw and the melody is infectious and they mirror a tight group of people who are deeply involved in their craft. On the band, Kabiotis added: “I’ve met four lads that want exactly what I’ve wanted ever since I picked up the guitar.”“When I record songs I do a very vague version first. I like to take that to the rest because when we play together we always come up with great structures and melodies. The Martini Sessions are far from being a one-man band.”Although they are by no means the finished article, their music suggests sophistication beyond their modest years and they offer an exciting prospect to anyone who takes music seriously.Jon Corbett----------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ -------Previous gigs:Sun 03 May 2009 - 'WAP Fest' @ Academy 1, Newcastle Sun 19 Apr 2009 - sup. JON CORBETT

"The Martini Sessions have created somewhat of a buzz on Newcastle’s indie scene in the past few months...In the short time they’ve been together, their music has been on a continuing journey towards sophistication. Their signature intros are well constructed and instantly recognisable, paving the way for an ample chorus."
THE JOURNAL CULTURE MAGAZINE

"The Martini Sessions played their first ever gig at the Carling Academy's 'Where Angels Fear to Tread' slot and played a six song set, full to the brim of big chorus's, cheerful riffs and enough guitars to put Kasabian to shame."
THE CRACK MAGAZINE

"One of Newcastle's finest young beatgroups."
JUKEBOX

"Best band in Newcastle."
