About Me

Last year the New York City festival, SoundBites, made history hosting the likes of Rives, Jaha Zainabu,Taylor Mali, Nii Parkes, Roger Bonair Agard and Dasha Kelly. Poets traveled from Texas, North Carolina and California for a weekend of creative writing, performance and workshopping with the closing event at the broadway theatre, New World Stages This year will be slightly different with the Festival separted into two installments. The first installment on October 25th & 26th, 2008 will consist of The SHHH...250 BUK SECRET YOUTH SLAM (open to poets age14 -19) and The SHHH 500 BUK SECRET ADULT SLAM (open to ages 20 and up) Slots are limited! Dasha is a nationally-respected advocate for writers and the art of spoken word.KEN ARKIND: "this whole bio thing seemed to take a lot of creativity. I spent all of it earlier talking to a hipster chick."ALVIN LAU: a writer or poetry and prose. An avid competitor, he is a two-time Chicago youth poetry slam champion, two-time national youth poetry slam champion, the Grand Slam Champion of both the Mental Graffiti poetry slam and the Green Mill Poetry Slam.GRACE: comes from New York City where she studied at the acclaimed Third Street Music School Settlement. Her song "Ordinary Sentiment" was featured in the Edward Burns film "Purple Violets" and premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in the spring of 2007.
