My name is Darren O’Brien. I’m a 24 year old singer/songwriter from Calistoga, CA. I currently am involved in 4 different bands: Something Cool, God’s Oddities, The Cruz Missiles and my solo acoustic project. Something Cool is a North Bay punk band that has been around the Sonoma County area for years. I started off playing the drums in SC when I was 13 years old, and then switch to guitar and vocals about 3 years ago, along side my older brother Sean, while my best friend Kevin took my place on the drums. About 2 years ago, our friend Skot asked Kevin and I to help out with his Santa Cruz based punk band The Cruz Missiles. Never turning down a challenge, we accepted, knowing that being in a band based out of a town hundreds of miles away was going to mean a lot of driving for us. I manned the duties on bass for TCM for a little over a year until I was switch over to second guitar, with Sam (Intergalactic Smugglers) currently on bass. My third band is an odd group for me to be in, literally. In 2008 I was living in Santa Rosa next to my friends who were starting a hip hop group called Gods Oddities. Sike asked me to do a song with them and then after we finished the song (“Ode to Radioâ€) there was talk about forming a live band to go along with the 3 MCs that currently made up Gods Oddities. Before we knew it GO was a band of 8 individuals with 8 different styles of musical influences coming together to truly live up to the name of Oddities. Currently all 3 bands are active in their live local music scenes and are currently working on studio releases. In between a full-time job and a full-time commitment to each band I also write and perform songs as a solo artist as well. These songs (which you’ll find on this myspace page) have more of a folk rock sound, stemming more from the music that I grew up listening to before I discovered punk rock.
