About Me

auspex (noun): a religious official who interpreted omens to guide public policy
Auspex was a dark EBM project consisting of Florida-based electronic musicians John Gerteisen and Alan Smith (who would later join Die Sektor) and vocalist Paul Vermeren.
Electronic musicians Alan Smith and John Gerteisen had been collaborating on various projects since around 2001, working under such names as Alinea and Skware. As their sound began to gel and mature in 2003, former Gainesville DJ and friend Paul Vermeren was added as vocalist and the name 'Auspex' was settled upon.
With the group's members drawing influences from sources as diverse as Hocico, Infected Mushroom, the Klinik, and Front Line Assembly, Auspex's sound could best be described as dark electro-industrial with psytrance influences.
The project performed live with acts such as Terrorfakt, Razed In Black, and E-Craft and began to work on a demo for label submission. Auspex also produced, remixed, and collaborated with other artists, including Diverje and Aslan Faction. It was one such collaboration that eventually led to John and Alan becoming members of the harsh EBM act Die Sektor (currently signed to NoiTekk).
Auspex ceased operations in 2004, with a handful of live performances, remixes, and compilation appearances to their credit. Their demo was never sent to any labels, but this MySpace page was created to showcase some of the rough demo tracks, with the permission of all former members of the band. Whether new material is forthcoming remains to be seen.
