FREAKWINCEY is an ambitious live musical group with high energy. Ray Billups, longtime follower of the legendary James Brown, and the all time Funkmeister, George Clinton, whose P-Funk movement included relatives of Ray’s, conceived the group. Born in Plainfield NJ, Ray Billups is the Master-Brain behind FREAKWINCEY. With the inspiration of Brown and Clinton, it come to no surprise when Ray formed his own band in 1981. Ray is the mega force, behind the group.
FREAKWINCEY is complete with an experienced and talented group of performers. The highly electrifying band, whose on-stage performance is as lively and energetic as its name, together have created and album mixed with the soul of Funk Rock and P-Funk. With Ray’s original passages being used, FREAKWINCEY strives to bring its listeners the highest level of Funk content. The group can and will funketise your mind, body and soul to a level of funk-a-tivity through funk, style and lyrics. So let’s “Do that Stuff and Get UP for the Down Stroke for FREAKWINCEY!”
In 1997, FREAKWINCEY was signed to a recording contract with Rephlex Records, and independent label based in London, after an executive heard the title cut from their debut album, “I FARTED”. The single became a hit in Britain, and FREAKWINCEY took back the 70’s with the cut, which received mad props on the London charts.
Often requested, never imitated, FREAKWINCEY has opened for many acts including: MORRIS DAY and THE TIME, H-TOWN, SHANE’ MORE, COLONEL ABRAMS, DELFONICS and several others. Their combination of assertive quality and high energy has helped FREAKWINCEY become London’s and the United States’ leading provider of Funk Music.
During their tour in South East Asia, they accomplished high grades for their musical sound and energetic lyrics. FREAKWINCEY’s focus is to become the biggest Funk influence in the new Millennium. The FREAKWINCEY experience is the experience for the funk of a lifetime.
