During last few years we’ve been very busy with touring within Russia and near abroad countries and we’ve crossed these territories from the South to the North and from the East to the West. Almost in every city we have good friends, who previously were no more than our booking agents or local punk bands. But now every time we go to their cities with greatest pleasure. To play punk-rock, to meet our brothers-in-music and, of course, to have a blast Here we want to emphasize one very important and pleasant moment!!! A good half of those people – are punk-rockers like us. We are happy to see that they stay punks till the end despite all the troubles. Certainly all of them want to be heard and loved everywhere. Unfortunately, given the current hard times, for those bands who live, say, far from “megalopolises” it’s very difficult to make one’s way to any scene and get the attention of the audience One day they just give up and disappear in grey mass of ordinary people, they just drift and it’s a shame.
In the second volume of “Smehopunkorama” we introduce to you our first united punk-team of CIS !!!

To make the picture complete, “united team” is diversified with foreign bands, who have become our friends recently and with whom we keep in touch. They provided us with their songs with pleasure. We want to distinguish them too. But this time distinguish among foreign bands. And this sounds like a “world team”
In the future we will continue to control the process of migration of punk-rock in the Universe and the reason for this is simple.
There are plenty of unique, talented and just cool punk bands everywhere, and all of them have a right to exist!!! They just need to be discovered!!! Attention boys and girls ! As well as their parents!
The time has come and we are ready to introduce our next baby for your unselfish and even judgement!
We called it "Alcorider", and we have our reasons for that :)

Recording took place at the same favourite "Crisis - studio" in Podol'sk.
The process was head by, i.e. the man who:
managed, turned handles, made jokes, was witty and giggled with us (who started all that mess, Chup, Gruzin and Krivoi), the owner of the studio and simply the God of all "vintage" - Max Belihin.

So! Why «Alcorider» ? :
«Rider» is a fellow (boy or girl) who is into extreme sports!
Involuntary there appears a question - and why "Alco"?
We think there should be no questions like that, because alcohol is not less extreme, and in our own way, we ride too!
But there is also such thing as "Pro-rider"!
And this is no one else, but a rider who gained some attitude of his skills, participating in competitions, getting prizes and even getting some moeny for that to provide for the living!
In other words - riding is his life!
Since almost all our time we spend in touring and do nothing, but playing punk-rock, it somes to you that you are "rider" too!
What is more, you are "alcorider"!
In other words it is nothing more but comparison of above-mentioned extreme sports and the way of life that we lead, we breath and don't imagine ourselves without it!
And to be precise it is music and shows.
And to be even more precise, it is PUNK-ROCK!!!

We are willing to represent you the Russian-Finnish split-single “Split yourself apart”, starring, among others, our band. The CD includes 5 new songs, recorded for our third upcoming album. Recently each of those songs has been once established on some punk compilations. And as far as one could listen to one compilation and the other to a different one, you now have a wonderful opportunity to listen to all five songs in one breath!!! Simply, the CD could be undoubtedly called real single to our new, and we hope, long-awaited, album!!! Now more details about the CD!!! Split yourself apart – is absolutely badass Russian-Finnish split of four bands, who know the sense of being badass! Let’s start from the very beginning. First five songs are energetic and musically various tracks from Assenizators from Petrozavodsk, RU. One can find here punk-rock, ska, metal and Balkan and Gypsy folk… The extrinsic value of songs is represented by the fact that, unfortunately it is the last release starring guys from Assenizators. Further go 5 songs of well known katu-punk band Rejected. The aesthetics of street hooligans from a small near-border town Lappeenranta, FL, consists of: pubs, parties, emotions, friends and fun (which is no wonder), though the lyrics is more actual than above-mentioned topics (you can find it in the booklet) , but in musical sense everything is quite encouraging, streetpunk in old European tradition! Well, next participants are psychos from Joensuu, FL, Relentless. Psychobilly Karelian-style is close to the Australian the Living End! Though Relentless is more psychopunk, direct and rather energetic, melancholic enough and sometimes even dramatic. Good at encouraging old school veterans to the both sides of Russian-Finnish border. The last band on the split is skate-punk trio from Istra, Moscow area, RU. Highly-qualified speedy records lead us to the city of “cops and taxists”. The lyrics is simple, a little bit vulgar, but together with the skillfully played music we get very cool theme without any prejudice and complexes! So, if you decided to have fun at weekend with your old friends, grab this CD and a pack of beer and you will have good mood for sure ?
The band SMEH (a russian word meaning laughter) has been formed in 1999 in Istra, a town in the Moscow area, by two brothers: Maxim (aka Gruzin - means Georgian) and Sergey (aka Choop). The musical style they chose to play is in their own words called "CalifornIstrian" punk-rock, playfully hinting on the native city, and also on the idols from the sunny California - NOFX and RANCID.
For a long period of time the guys could not find a suitable drummer. Suitable, not only on musical qualities and criteria, but also, that the most important in his attitude to a common cause. In recent times the new drummer - Andrey (aka Krivoy - russian for Curve) has joined the band and became a full-time member of the band. The history keeps silence about the previous band members behind the drum kit...

For us, as well as for many others, punk-rock began with listening to Sex Pistols, but in a very short time Ramones took their place in our stereo. Ramones were the top listen long enough (maybe for a year or two maybe) until we have heard a very strange form of punk for us at that time!!! It was firstly - NOFX!!! And then it all went forward - NO USE FOR A NAME, LAGWAGON, VOODOO GLOW SKULLS, MXPX, SLICK SHOES, MAD CADDIES, FACE TO FACE, GOOD RIDDANCE, VANDALS and not so widespread music such as STRIFE, EARTH CRISIS, TRIP FACE etc. These (and not only these) bands have had a major influence on us, our lifestyle and our music!!!
So... What do we sing about???
We sing about EVERYTHING! We sing about what we see, hear, feel, try, taste... We sing about what we want and don't want, about the things that we love, the things which are pleasant to us and, certainly, about the things we dislike or even hate. What we can't stand are all these snicker-bars worshipin', pepsi lovin', bubblegum brainwashed teenagers which are fed these things by the Major Corporations through advertising on TV. We are also against the Modern Teenage Ways Of Life which is dictated by MTV, the channel that brings up herds of Beavises and Buttheads similar to each other. For us punk-rock is self-expression. It is that certain "tower" which we can show our middle fingers from and spit... And noone will tell me: "Hey, you!!! Quit spitting and showing the middle finger!!!" Because it is OUR tower. Punk-rock is not necessarily a music that's "played on a stick", it is any informal culture having the features and very strongly pronounced differences which far not everyone will want, and can correspond. In fact the certain skateboarding is a direct expression of punk-rock.
In May, 2001 SMEH does a mini-tour across Crimea with gigs Simferopol, Sevastopol and in Evpatoria supporting their debut album "Zhivyak". On arrival to Moscow the album is presented in "Tochka" club!!! (Tochka is russian for "dot")
During 2001-2003 SMEH are constantly touring Russia. At that time they release a three- way split CD single which includes three new songs by SMEH (featuring their hit "McDonalds") and songs by the bands PARAZITY (The Parasites) from Nizhny Novgorod and KURKY from St. Petersburgh. At the end of 2004 SMEH contribute two songs for a compilation record called "The Higher School Of Punk". SMEH's songs for this CD are "The Atypical Pneumonia" and "Vagabond". Approximately during same time SMEH record a song called "If You Got No Brains - Go Pump Iron" for the second volume of "Punkomania" compilation - it became an instant hit. In August, 2005 SMEH participates in annual festival "INVASION". Since the end of autumn of the same year the musicians collect material for their own punk-compilation CD which is released in April, 2006. The CD is named after its creators - "SMEH-O-PUNK-O-RAMA" and includes tracks by the brightest and most unordinary bands making the present punk scene in Russia.
With this record the guys wish to show all of the variety and eccentricity of our (Russian) punk scene. The word PUNK is especially emphasized, as these four letters are directly connected to such relatives in spirit as, SKA, EMO and HARDCORE. All over the world these four styles were always something to the whole and uniform and at times it becomes pretty upsetting to notice how the kids divide on those, others and these.
The basic idea of this release is becoming of the spirit of UNITY on our punk scene.
In the fall of 2004 SMEH begin to record their new album and in October,2005 they present their long-awaited record called "Ne Ssat!" (An untranslateble word-combination which means "Don't be afraid!", but only rude... equals to such phrase as "Don't shit yoursef") to the public. The record becomes the leader of sales on many musical counters. After two large presentations in Moscow and in St. Petersburgh the band kicks off a large tour in support of the new album. The band gives shows literally across all Russia, and also across Ukraine and Belarus. The total of the played shows makes 24 performances. Having returned from tour SMEH continue to travel across the country and the near abroad and prepares the material for the next album.
