About Me
Pause has always been different since the day he dropped. Not a CD, but since birth. Born half Dominican and half White, Pause was brought up in unique circumstances and culture. This could be the reason why Pause never fit in with just one group, but rather with everybody. “I was always cool with everybody, from the nerds to the street dudes to the jocks to everyone. I’m a fluid person so I can fit in and do me wherever.â€
Unfortunately, one place, Pause couldn’t always fit in was his childhood home. With an older sister and a younger brother, Pause struggled with being the middle child for years and still has issues that bother him to this day. “I was always the asshole at my house. I always got in trouble cause I was striving for attention. My sister was always smart and doing her thang, and my little brother was the cute one, real close with my mother. So I didn’t know where to go. I usually ended up getting sent to my room.â€
It was through these times of getting in trouble that Pause would pen his first rhymes. “I wrote my first rhymes when I was six, recorded them yelling into my speaker. Tape player shit.†It was in Second grade, where Pause met Fex, his ‘Future’ partner in rhyme, that Pause really started getting into Hip Hop. “Fex’s uncles were young, like early 20s, to me they were like the ill guys on the block and I looked up to them. They put us on, Fex first of course, onto Run DMC, LL Cool J, KRS One, etc. Just watch the movie ‘Krush Groove’ and you’ll see where my head’s been at.â€
Pause’s neighborhood also crafted him to be a universal type of person. Raised in a working-class hood in the Bean where lower class, middle class, housing projects, and the like all share the same 2 block radius, Pause grew up around all types of people. As he sees it, “there are only two types of people: good, real people and everybody else. And when I say ‘real’, I’m not talking about the street/gangster shit, but being real with yourself and with the world. To me, that’s what life is about.â€
Until next time, Pause will be busy mastering his craft and promoting his latest solo project The Present, which you can download on his website for free.
