About Me

Ok one last quote. This one is SO good.
"The whole thing is so patently infantile, so foreign to reality, that to anyone with a friendly attitude to humanity it is painful to think that the great majority of mortals will never be able to rise above this view of life." -Sigmund Freud (and I never liked him but this is so true!!!)Here is a quote from one of my heros....Check out this quote:
"What do our opponents mean when they apply to us the label "Liberal?" If by "Liberal" they mean, as they want people t believe, someone who is soft in his policies abroad, who is against local government, and who is unconcerned with the taxpayer's dollar, then ... we are not that kind of "Liberal." But if by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal." -- President John F. Kennedy - September 14, 1960

A Blue Star Service Banner displayed in the window of a home is an American tradition. The banner lets others know that someone in the home is proudly serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. The Blue Star Service Banner tradition reminds us all that war touches every neighborhood in our land. This is to honor my son Karl who is currently serving his country in the US Army at Fort Hood, TX.
And now for something completely different .....
Did you know that Atheists can be good mothers, good citizens and good patriots?? Yeah it's true. We don't have horns! .. .. ..I was born in NYC, raised on Long Island and graduated HS in 1975. Then I went to college in Brockport, NY and graduated AND got married the same year 1979. I had my first child Nikki in 1980. Moved to Fishkill, NY for 6 months then moved to Charlotte, NC where I had my 2nd child Karl in 1984. Next on to Springfield, MO for 10 yrs where I got divorced. When I was single I met my current husband online on a BBS (if you remember what a BBS is you MUST email me!!) and moved back to NYC to live with him - after a 3 yr long distance romance. We got married in 2003 and then moved to Florida. That's my geographical history in a nutshell.
My Brad Pitt story:
In 1995 I was working as a home health nurse making visits to peoples homes who needed RN services in the Springfield, MO area. I had a call one day to go to a home to admit an older woman to our service. Her name was Clara Hillhouse. I noticed on the paperwork that her next of kin was "Jane Pitt" which I didn't really pay attention to until later. When I got there and started chatting with the woman about her medications she said to me out of the blue "Honey do you know Brad Pitt?" I said "Sure he's a movie star"! Well she told me that he was also her grandson and this was the house he grew up in. I took a look around and sure enough there was a big color picture of Brad in jeans sans shirt with ropes over his shoulder hanging over the mantel. NICE Picture. I was starting to get the picture. I asked her if she's seen all of Brads movies and she replied "No not all of them. He won't let me see certain ones!" She then proceeded to take out a family album and show me Pitt family pictures! It was your run of the mill family album pictures with the Pitt family around the Christmas tree when Brad was young. I can say that he really has a good looking family too! Then his mom and sister came home and I met them too. Charming people really. The whole thing was sort of odd because I really didn't know ahead of time that I was meeting Brad Pitt's family. Although I had been living in Springfield for years I wasn't aware of the fact that Brad Pitt grew up there and went to the same High School that my kids would attend. Anyway I had a really nice visit with Ms. Hillhouse and Brad's mom. On the way out I went to pet the dog and he bit me! YIKES... bitten by Brad Pitt's dog.
More interesting Suz facts:
I was a flight attendant from 1999 until 9/11/01. Best job I EVER had.
Another one:
I used to be the RN assistant to retinal doctors. I assisted with eye procedures that would curl your toes (like injecting medication right into the eyeball).
About Suz the the Thoroughbred racing fan:
I saw the AMAZING, INCREDIBLE Secretariat win the Triple Crown at the Belmont Stakes on June 9, 1973. I was AT the race with my mom, my aunt and my cousin Annie. I will never ever forget that day. Secretariat was a SUPERHORSE! This horse ran the 1.5 mile Belmont Stakes in 2:24 a world record that has never been touched in the 35 yrs since then....and he beat Sham by THIRTY ONE lengths! Check this out!
Ok and one more thing:
I love football!! GO BUCS!
Some quotes that I like:
"The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing."
--Albert Einstein
Another one:
"You can't convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it's based on a deep seated need to believe." --Carl Sagan
And one final one:
"Faith is the great cop-out, the great excuse to evade the need to think and evaluate evidence. Faith is belief in spite of, even perhaps because of, the lack of evidence." --Richard Dawkins

The Affirmations of Humanism:

A Statement of Principles

We are committed to the application of reason and science to the understanding of the universe and to the solving of human problems.
We deplore efforts to denigrate human intelligence, to seek to explain the world in supernatural terms, and to look outside nature for salvation.
We believe that scientific discovery and technology can contribute to the betterment of human life.
We believe in an open and pluralistic society and that democracy is the best guarantee of protecting human rights from authoritarian elites and repressive majorities.
We are committed to the principle of the separation of church and state.
We cultivate the arts of negotiation and compromise as a means of resolving differences and achieving mutual understanding.
We are concerned with securing justice and fairness in society and with eliminating discrimination and intolerance.
We believe in supporting the disadvantaged and the handicapped so that they will be able to help themselves.
We attempt to transcend divisive parochial loyalties based on race, religion, gender, nationality, creed, class, sexual orientation, or ethnicity, and strive to work together for the common good of humanity.
We want to protect and enhance the earth, to preserve it for future generations, and to avoid inflicting needless suffering on other species.
We believe in enjoying life here and now and in developing our creative talents to their fullest.
We believe in the cultivation of moral excellence.
We respect the right to privacy. Mature adults should be allowed to fulfill their aspirations, to express their sexual preferences, to exercise reproductive freedom, to have access to comprehensive and informed health-care, and to die with dignity.
We believe in the common moral decencies: altruism, integrity, honesty, truthfulness, responsibility. Humanist ethics is amenable to critical, rational guidance. There are normative standards that we discover together. Moral principles are tested by their consequences.
We are deeply concerned with the moral education of our children. We want to nourish reason and compassion.
We are engaged by the arts no less than by the sciences.
We are citizens of the universe and are excited by discoveries still to be made in the cosmos.
We are skeptical of untested claims to knowledge, and we are open to novel ideas and seek new departures in our thinking.
We affirm humanism as a realistic alternative to theologies of despair and ideologies of violence and as a source of rich personal significance and genuine satisfaction in the service to others.
We believe in optimism rather than pessimism, hope rather than despair, learning in the place of dogma, truth instead of ignorance, joy rather than guilt or sin, tolerance in the place of fear, love instead of hatred, compassion over selfishness, beauty instead of ugliness, and reason rather than blind faith or irrationality.
We believe in the fullest realization of the best and noblest that we are capable of as human beings.
