. Born 1973 : East Los Angeles California. Started playing music @ age 5. Started taking photos in 1984.Played drums through high school in a surf rock band with Joey from Ninja Academy , and also shortly with punk band Jeffs Parents. Began a long time love affair with the darkroom that is still going strong 25 years later. I make my own developers and toners from raw chemistry and attempt to walk in the footsteps of earlier photographers that were involved in the entire process from start to end. My work is just as much about content as it is about print quality. Something I feel has been lost with digital photography is that a lot of times its more about imaging than print quality. In 1987 I discovered photo screen printing and posterization process which led to printing photos on garments, a process I still work with today. From 1987 to the present I've made "merch" for bands but I like to think of it as art because all the garments are different and original. My photos / design were used for the band Ozomatli's first EP cover and merch line and most recently for NYC underground kings Dead Combo . I have posted samples of the shirts and will post many new photos of womens dresses and skirts inspired by 1940s designs. I've been sporting a fedora since 1990 and its not a costume , just my style . The only guys I saw hitting that style were the Stern Brothers and Eddie Nichols of Royal Crown Revue , way ahead of they're time. In 1991 I co-produced the benefit event " Seventh Generation North and South" along with native american intertribal organization "Iron Circle Nation" . An event that included bands Aztlan Underground , Mecolodiacs ( Universal Congress of ) , members of Final Conflict and many other bands and visual artists. Shortly after I co-produced " In The Red " along with legendary La artists Raul Baltazar and Zack De La Rocha . It was the first U.S benefit for the native people of Chiapas ( EZLN) at Regeneracion in Highland Park/LA and included bands Aztlan Underground , Stanford Prison Experiment , Sol , and Rage Against The Machine. In 2003 I was in charge of bringing " local talent " music , dance and tattoo/visual artists to the Music Festival Lollapalooza that had the bands The Distillers , Queens of The Stone Age , and Janes Addiction. After the Tsunami in South Asia I produced the "NYC Intertribal Tsunami Benefit" at the CBGB club. It Included the bands Danny Boy Says, Frankpollis , and my band The Loveless headlined. Most recently I worked in a similar fashion with the East Village Radio Music and art Festival that included The Vivian Girls and was headlined by KRS one hip hop legend. I was staff photographer at Urb magazine , Rap Pages magazine and The LA Weekly . I have also been published and or reviewed in The New York Times , Chicago Times , Dallas City News , La Reader , La Times , Juxtapose , Bikini , Raygun , Buzz Magazine. I have appeared on The London BBC , LA Channel 7 news , Telemundo talk show " Hora Lunatica " with Humberto Luna. From 1989 to 1996 I worked in the record industry doing a series of album covers and promo photos for Sony Records , Mercury Records ( The Circle Jerks) , Ruthless (Eazy-E) , Priority , Deff Jam and many more. Soon digital photography phased out film and I went to art photography and left the commercial scene.I stayed in the lab concentrating on fine art and music , hence the birth of "The TWO TON SON " merging my two true loves music and photography/printmaking. After all these years I'm glad because I have 25 years of consistent experience with analogue photography , so when it comes to printing and processing you can say I really know my shit . I now understand how accessible digital has allowed the entire world to view photographs in an instant and do not hold so much resentment, but still prefer "real film" to pixels. I began to go further back in time as the world went forward. Truly I feel that in comparison to sculpture and painting " the photographic print " is still young and yet to be conquered. There is still so much to learn. I work with Pyro , Amidol , and many developers for film and paper that have been phased out for decades. Im a big fan of early photo process and really love Steiglitz .Call me old fashioned , but I love it and its my lifes work to promote the use of early photography to anyone interested. In 1996 I traveled through all of Central America , Mexico , and South America for over 6 months photographing visual artists and musicians to produce a book. When I arrived in Puerto Rico I checked a bag in on Carnival airlines that had the mother load of 47 rolls of film and 28 audio and video tapes. I never saw them again ! I had invested thousands of dollars from a large MTA and NEA art grant into this project and felt completely distraught. I started focusing on music and making art photos instead of portraits that I was so fixated on. It was my spiritual turning point and the experience taught me that I can work as a interdisciplinary artist. I have had over 35 art exhibitions in galleries and Museums and have shown alongside Ed Ruscha , Man Ray , Raymond Pettibone , Kim Abeles and many more. I started " Two Ton Son " which is my current company and band. From 2000 to 2006 I spearheaded a punk rock band " The Loveless" the punk branch of TWO TON SON in NYC with a variety of players , but mostly recorded and performed with Micky Jr. From the Dee Dee Ramone band and Space Juniors on guitar. Steve Young from Holly and the Italians , Joey Ramone Band , and the legendary Star fighter on drums.I also recorded 5 songs with NYC based english legendary rocker Gass Wild of The Love Pirates, Manish Boys, Lightning Raiders and an embryionic Pretenders. We will be releasing a compilation of recordings including many guest guitar players from 1997-2007. Also will release the long awaited self titled album " The Two Ton Son " with guitar legend Jody Harris of The Golden Palominos,James Chance and the Contortions, Richard Hell and the Voidoids and guest guitarist Barry Ryan of The Rockats and Robert Gordon band. It will be pressed on vinyl and will include a signed and numbered original print. I also recorded playing trumpet on a record by actress/performer Milla Jovovich. I have printed photographs for Herb Ritts , Harry Gamboa Jr. , Edward Colver , Derrick Ion , and many more. Two Ton Son website and album will be out soon. I have barely come out of the underground so google may not have much on me or truly represent my real history , but I will update. I'm pleased to announce that Urb magazine will be putting out a book on its history and I will have photos included.TWO TON SON concentrates on both prints and music in order to keep the roots element alive. Big Love from the Two Ton Son.
