Fritz Hermann

Fritz Hermann, born 1953, complete name Peter Fritz Hermann Hansen, began his musical career in a pupil rock band as a bass player (as guitar players were plenty) and singer. Later he discovered that folk music was an ideal addition to the scout songs at the campfire. Although influenced first by the american music, then also by the western european music, he always looked to find his road to the german folk music. During his time in Kiel (1974-1984) he played in different folk groups (some publications on venyl albums) and discovered the concertina as his musical instrument. In 1983 he won — together with Georg Möllers — the Walker Cup for the best duet at the festival of the International Concertina Association in London. In the period that followed the only musical activities were working in his small home recording studio, teaching music at school and occasional gigs with a dance band. During this time he wrote 5 children musicals and a couple of songs in german. Unfortunately in 1987 his contribution to the Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson wasn‘t even chosen for the german pre contest. Twenty years later another contest lead him to write his first song in english, more are to follow. Lately Fritz Hermann likes to accompany his singing with the ukulele, alternating with concertina and guitar. In his program he unites own songs and folk songs, trying to tie new songs to the folk song tradition. His under cover songs are well known english songs with his own new german lyrics — sometimes miles away from the original. An evening with entertaining songs in german or plattdeutsch and much opportunity to sing along may be expected by the audience.
